Happy New Year, honeybees! To start off the new year, we are sat. Heck, we’ve been sat for ages. While we’ve been streaming SOS nonstop for the past two years, we’ve also been patiently waiting for its deluxe album. A few weeks ago, mother SZA finally decided to serve us the deluxe version of SOS, entitled SOS DELUXE: LANA. Just like the rest of the world, to say we were ecstatic is an understatement!
Let’s take a look at all 15 of SZA’s new tracks and deep dive into our favorite lyrics from each.
‘No More Hiding’
“Cut myself open to see what I’m made of
I guess I’m guilty of giving out fake love
I’m so fake, f***”
We’re starting off with a bang, but what else can you expect from SZA? She took her time making this album, and ‘No More Hiding’ proves just that.
‘What Do I Do’
“You’re a fling that went too far
Told you I need honesty
But you want that old me
You want that pull up, so why don’t you mean it? Show me”
This was instantly one of our favorites from the new album! SZA is known to get vulnerable in her lyrics, and we love just how much she’s telling us on this track. We’ll always stand by your side girl!
’30 For 30 (With Kendrick Lamar)’
“And that’s the way I like it.”
When Kendrick Lamar released GNX with a special SZA feature, we just knew he would be back around on LANA. Our predictions were right, and of course, this song is incredible. We’re keeping it quite simple with our favorite lyric from this track. It’ll hit every time – sometimes simplicity makes the biggest impact.
‘Diamond Boy (DTM)’
“I need you poolside
You’ve been on my mind
Wonder if you all mine
What do it matter anyway?”
Yes, the opening lyrics are our favorites! We also want our bae poolside, because what’s better than spending the summer with your lover? This is a true SZA song if we’ve ever heard one!
‘BMF’
“He ’bout all that action, call him Mr. Handle It”
Another one of our favorites, ‘BMF’ has too many iconic lyrical moments. We certainly need a Mr. Handle It in our lives, too! But of course, he must be “young and fine and dark and handsome!”
‘Scorsese Baby Daddy’
“Period is late again, I wonder if I cooked a baby
One day, I’ll understand all that it takes to be a lady”
Yet again, SZA’s pen is flowing. She always knows what we need to hear better than we do!
‘Love Me 4 Me’
“Love me for me, can you love me for me?”
At this point, SZA is basically our therapist. Going into 2025, we’re not settling for the bare minimum! We’re learning to love ourselves, every flaw and every perfection. We love each of you honeybees just as you are!
‘Chill Baby’
“Defyin’ gravity to face my fears”
Did we include this lyric just because it’s a subtle nod to Wicked? Maybe…but, we also love the message that SZA is writing to us here. Sometimes, the idea of facing one’s fears is scarier than the actual action of facing that fear. It takes courage and vulnerability, and ‘Chill Baby’ is helping us get there. Thanks, SZA!
‘My Turn’
“Hit me back when you wake up, I don’t care if you busy”
Just like SZA, when we love, we love hard. ‘My Turn’ is a track that hits hard, because it’s all about falling in love and being a little bit obsessive. Texting our partner the moment they wake up? Double and triple calling when we don’t hear from them? We’ve all been there!
‘Crybaby’
“It’s not my fault
If it’s Murphy’s law
What can go wrong will go wrong”
Sometimes, life is unfair, and things will go wrong. As we grow up, we’ve learned to accept the harder obstacles and embrace the accomplishments along the way.
‘Kitchen’
“Dancing, kissing, the kitchen
Makes me think I forgive him”
Dancing in the kitchen is our favorite activity! Put on one of our favorite songs from 2024 with a little sweet trea,t and we’re unstoppable. But, we also know better than to text him back and forgive him. Honeybees, don’t do it!
‘Get Behind Me (Interlude)’
“I feel energies and I see sh**”
Just like SZA, sometimes we think we’re psychic. But, maybe it’s the universe trying to send us a signal…like to not text him back! Regardless, always listen to the energy that surrounds you and trust your gut.
‘Drive’
“All my opps lookin’ distressed
How you copy then compete?”
Whenever we’re driving alone at night, we always queue up a good SZA song. ‘Drive’ is the perfect song for that late-night road trip!
‘Another Life’
“Not tryna be thе one you play with
Not tryna be the onе that stays up
Done tryna be your favorite
Done tryin’ to fit your template”
Another life lesson SZA has taught us on LANA is to keep your self-respect and never conform to an image that someone else wants you to be.
‘Saturn’
“Intrusive thoughts, they paralyzе
Nirvana’s not as advertised
Therе’s got to be more, been here before”
When we saw that ‘Saturn’ was to be included in the deluxe version of SOS, we were so excited! This song was one of our favorites of 2024, and now we get to listen to it even more in 2025.
Grand National Tour With Kendrick Lamar
