We’re absolutely buzzing here in the hive! Why? Because we have another exclusive interview with one of our favorite content creators, CG5. 2025 is truly the year for CG5 with so many of his different projects being released. In this exclusive interview, we talk all about his horror series, music, and more. Let’s jump right in!
Your have new releases for multiple projects – the single ‘LA LA LOVE,’ its music video,
and now a part 3 of your U MOVE horror series. How does the process of creating and
releasing each of these projects differ?
I am known for making music, so making a song like LALALove was much easier than making
Part 3 of my horror series, because it’s what I’ve been accustomed to for over 20 years now. But
I’m grateful that I got to pull off something so ambitious with such a great team of people.
With the multiple projects that you have going on at the moment, how do you balance
all of them at once while also taking time for yourself and know where to focus your
energy?
I usually work fairly quickly, so I have plenty of time for other activities. While it can get a bit
overwhelming when I’m juggling multiple important tasks, I still manage to maintain a good
balance between work and life.
We have to ask… is part 3 of U MOVE where it stops, or will we get more short films in
the future?
This is where it ends, I think. It didn’t perform as well as the music does, which I should have
expected. But putting together my very own horror short film was fun to do either way. I’m
always up for acting in other people’s projects and in my own music videos.
Do you have a part from the U MOVE part 3 that stands out to you, and why would you
say that’s the case? Any behind-the-scenes tea you’d want to share with us and our
readers?
The commercial at the end is a major standout moment. It essentially wraps up everything
you’ve just seen, providing answers to some of the lingering questions. If theorists have been
speculating, this scene will be crucial to finalize their hypotheses. Many of the scenes were filmed out of order, not in chronological sequence. Honestly, that’s
how most people do it, so it’s not really a big secret.
With Part 2 delving deeper into the horror elements, how did you balance your musical
style with the darker themes of the series?
I think you mean Part 3? The pop songs I wrote for my EP all follow a consistent musical style,
with a strong retro sound throughout. However, I’d say the final track, featured in Part 3, is the
standout—it’s called “Entranced.” In Project U MOVE, as the songs get better for the viewer of
the tape, the pull of the tape becomes even stronger, drawing in its next victims.
Can you tell us more about the creative process behind developing the mysterious
VHS tape concept and its effects on the characters?
I wanted the central element of the film to be something instantly recognizable, something people would see and think, “Oh, that’s Project U MOVE.” I believe the red tape achieves that. Its impact on the characters is sinister, as the “entrancement” process starts the moment they come across the tape—or the tape comes across them.
Project U Move has drawn us in with its eerie and immersive storytelling. What
inspired the darker direction in Part 2, and what can we expect in Part 3?
In Part 2 of Project U MOVE, the tape is discovered by another victim, who, like the others,
doesn’t deserve it. This victim had a girlfriend, soon to be his fiancée, and was on the brink of
starting the next chapter of his life. But that future is quickly shattered. In Part 3, you can expect
more victims falling under the tape’s influence, along with deeper personal connections to the
characters.
You have a distinct ability to merge narrative-driven visuals with your music. Were
there any particular films, games, or real-life experiences that influenced the aesthetic
and themes of this project?
I wouldn’t say there was anything in particular that influenced the musical side of the horror
series. I feel like I haven’t seen this sort of thing done before. But I would say that the
horror/gaming community that already follows me inspired me to make a film of my own for them
in this style.
‘LA LA LOVE’ dropped alongside the continuation of the series. How does this song tie
into the story, and what was your creative process behind blending horror with music?
“LALALove” is another infectious song designed to captivate listeners. Once you play the tape,
there’s no turning back. The cheerful tone of the music makes it even more unsettling, in my
opinion. It’s chilling to think how something so upbeat can signify the inevitable end of a life.
Tell us a bit about the visuals for this new era. Walk us through the decision-making
process for your visuals. Were there any that almost made it, but didn’t? How do you
know when the perfect visual is made? Is there a significance of the color red?
For this new era, the visuals were carefully crafted to complement the overall mood and themes
of Project U MOVE. The decision-making process was driven by the need to evoke a specific
feeling in the audience, something that ties into the story and eeriness of the concept. Every
visual choice had to serve a purpose, whether it was to build tension, create atmosphere, or
reinforce the narrative.
There were definitely a few concepts that almost made it but didn’t quite hit the mark. It’s always a balance of maintaining the integrity of the story while also being visually striking, so
sometimes an idea can feel great but not align perfectly with the larger vision. We always knew
when we had the perfect visual because it immediately clicked – it’s like everything fell into place, and we could see how it would pull the audience in. It’s a gut feeling when you know
something just works.
As for the color red, it’s deeply significant. Red represents the danger, intensity, and urgency of
the narrative. It also ties into the tape, which is central to the story. Red is both an invitation and
a warning, a color that signals something powerful, dangerous, and unescapable. It’s a visual
cue for the audience to pay attention and understand the gravity of what’s unfolding. But most of
all, the color of the tape is what captures its victims. That being said, there’s a plot twist related
to that in Part 3 of the film. I think it will make sense to anyone who’s paying close enough
attention.
How is the tour going? Any fun fan stories that you can share with us?
The tour has been going amazing! It’s been such a great experience connecting with fans in
different states and countries. One of the best parts has definitely been seeing how passionate
and creative the fans are. There was this one fan who made a beautiful piece of fan art that I
decided belonged in a frame, displayed in the living room of our home – it was honestly so cool
to see how they put so much thought into it. Every show brings something new and special, and
the energy from the crowds have mostly been incredible.
PROJECT U MOVE: PART 1 was released on Jan. 24, 2025 and PROJECT U MOVE:
PART 2 on Feb. 21, 2025. And now Part 3 on March 21, 2025. How long has the idea
of PROJECT U MOVE been with you?
The concept for this horror film has only been around since late 2024. It came to me and my
co-director/friend, William Bradford, as a way to promote new music, and it wasn’t initially
planned to be a full-fledged 3-part film series. Yet, here we are.
How did the team-up with Piper Rubio begin? Piper is a spectacular actress!
Piper Rubio is widely recognized for her role as Abby in Five Nights at Freddy’s, so I knew right
away she was incredibly talented. What I didn’t know at the time was that she had become a fan
of my music and actually came to one of my shows in Los Angeles. We got to meet before the
show and snap some fun photos together. Ever since that day, I’ve had her in mind for a
potential collaboration, though I wasn’t sure exactly what it would be. But eventually, we figured
it out.
Inspired by your CG5 stage name, what do you think are the 5 most special things
about the world you’ve built around your music?
Music is more important to me now than ever before. I’m incredibly grateful to be able to pursue what I love as a full-time career. The music I’ve created so far is meant for everyone, not just fans of the video games that inspired it. My family has always been my rock, without a doubt. I plan to make a big impact on the world one day. I’m not sure exactly how it will happen, but I believe I can make it happen.
PROJECT U MOVE
CG5 released his new EP, PROJECT U MOVE. We’re absolutely obsessed and have been listening to it nonstop since it dropped. The record has 6 tracks and they’re all bangers! We love all of them, but if we had to pick a favorite, we’d pick ‘Sunrise.’ You can listen to the track below.
