‘Truth About You’
‘Truth About You’ is one of our favorite radio singles that Mitchell has ever released, and this song gives us goosebumps every time we hear it and relive the heartbreak. He’s a Shakespeare storyteller with his lyrics and vocal performance – we can sense the emotional turmoil he’s going through just in the way he sings. We can feel the heartache as it wraps around us like the wind, and that alone showcases how strong he is as a vocalist. Never mind the fact that his vocals are smooth and consistent throughout the entire song.
Overall, we always find ourselves going back to this song when we need to feel something on our daily commute, as it’s catchy and fun to sing, too. BONUS POINTS!
‘Bigger Mistakes’
This song is a whole vibe! With lyrics that spin away from a typical breakup song, we get an empowering anthem about moving on and realizing you’ve faced bigger problems/mistakes in life than a failed relationship. Mitchell Tenpenny encourages listeners to focus on the more important things in life, while also giving a metaphorical “F YOU!” to the ex-partner.
We love to just get down to this song and have a jam session while it plays, and we know once you add it to your playlist, you will never stop listening to it.
‘Happy And I Hate It’
MOVE OVER BETCHES AND HAND US THE AUX – THIS.IS.OUR.JAM! We can throw a** to every beat drop of this song while performing a live show in our living room. With throwback rock vibes mixed with hard-hitting pop-punk rhythms, it’s nothing but straight vibes. The song captures the bitter irony of seeing an ex move on quickly after a breakup.
This song captures the bitterness he feels from an ex moving on quickly after a breakup and encapsulates the many emotions you go through when a relationship ends (like jealousy and resentment). Seeing the ex out and about – carefree and happy – with their new partner in all the places that they used to go together and have memories – all the ways that he tried to make her happy – only to realize it wouldn’t have mattered what he did… he was never going to make her happy. This revelation adds a layer of self-awareness and vulnerability to the song. So, in short, it’s kind of sad, but we are still going to be over here vibing to it, and you should be, too.
‘Not Today’
Are you or a loved one suffering from the phenomenon known as heartbreak? Have you been looking for a way to help cope with the pain? You may be entitled to compensation in the form of … this song!
‘Not Today’ is a powerful anthem of sadness and heartbreak. This song takes us down the road of recovery and healing after a breakup, and encourages listeners to just grieve and FEEL their feelings when they are hurting from heartbreak. He has a knack for disguising the stories of raw, all-consuming heartbreak in the form of rock anthems, and we are so here for it. Healing is different for everyone, but often it’s a slow process. He wants listeners to know that it’s okay to be sad, mad, and every emotion in between, but let it out. Let it consume you – FEEL it. You’ll get through it and you’ll come out on the other side stronger than ever.
This song can be your first step in healing. Don’t believe us? Press play, crank it up, and cry while you scream-sing it. We guarantee you’ll start feeling better.
‘Obsession’
Does anyone need a new hyperfixation? This song is all about those, and it’s about to be your new one. It’s also the reason for the title of this article! We love this song as it delves into a list of all of Mitchell’s favorite things that he is obsessed with. That list includes Jordan’s watches, tattoos, and the most important thing on the list… YOU! JK JK we’re sure this is about his significant other, but we can dream, can’t we? We would love for someone to write such an adorable song about us, and we can’t help but be obsessed with it (see what we did there?) and the lyric video. It’s so ridiculous and cheesy (in the best way) that we could spend the rest of our lives indulging in it for a bit of a dopamine hit.
He is so unserious sometimes, despite how serious the lyrics are, and we love every minute of it.
‘Demon Or Ghost’ ft. Underoath
If you’re a metalhead, then this is THE song for you. Don’t tell anyone (we don’t want the other songs to get jealous), but this is probably our favorite Mitchell Tenpenny song of all time! We love screaming this in the car with the radio turned up so loud it makes the speakers rumble.
Despite the heavy instrumentals and thunderous beats, the lyrics of this song come from a place of deep emotional distress and mental turmoil. It taps into the internal conflict of dealing with a toxic person from a past relationship. Whether they will be a lingering memory, something they can move on from, or a permanent destructive force that will ruin their life forever.
Ghost or demon.
On that note, watch the video with fresh eyes and enjoy Mitchell shredding that guitar like it’s cheese at an Olive Garden, and he’s never gonna say STOP.
‘Elephant In The Room’ ft. Teddy Swims
First of all, we know these two had the time of their lives working on this collaboration, and since we love Teddy Swims as much as we love Mitchell Tenpenny, this song had to make our list!
Just imagine you are watching a movie where the main character locks eyes across a crowded room with someone – maybe their crush, maybe a stranger, or a casual acquaintance. The air is thick, and the chemistry becomes unbearable; the crowd seems to slow down as the intensity of the stare lingers. Everyone around them can see what’s happening; they can almost feel the tension radiating off them.
That feeling -the attraction between two people who refuse to act on their feelings- is what this song is all about.
It sounds like the plot of a romance movie, and all we can say is – where do we buy tickets?!
‘I Won’t’
Do you love the 80s? If the answer is yes, then this song is the one for you! It blends John Mayer-esque rhythms and 80s-inspired pop-rock to create a poignant yet hypnotic, scream-sing-at-karaoke-with-your-besties tune about resisting the urge to reconnect with a past love or partner. He croons about the heartbreak and overwhelming pain of missing them, knowing that, despite this, it’s for the best not to have this person in his life.
We feel the pain with him, but that doesn’t mean we can’t throw it back at the same time, ya know what we mean? *twerk twerk twerk*
‘Always Something With You’
This song blends aspects of pop and the country music rhythms we all crave, but in a Mitchell Tenpenny way. That’s one of the biggest things we love about his music: he’s a chameleon, and every song sounds different from the last, creating a unique and exciting experience when listening.
‘Always Something With You’ tells the story of how overwhelming and intoxicating infatuation with someone can be. Their presence, quirks, and allure occupy your every thought and make you move with a sense of purpose. While it can be distracting, it’s highlighting how powerful attraction can be when you are irrevocably in love with someone. We think it’s beautiful and poetic (and it’s a banger, so it gets an A+++).
‘Now We’re Talking’
Mitchell’s smooth vocals are mesmerizing on this track, and they hit all the right parts of our brains to give us the warm and fuzzies. The song narrates an interaction between two strangers, their chemistry is electric, almost magnetic, and they find themselves on the verge of creating something more meaningful between each other. It also highlights the significance of someone’s body language, which can reveal a great deal about them and their feelings (a crucial aspect of everyday life).
Flirtatious and swoon-worthy, this track adds a little bit of sultry country to your everyday mix and wraps you up in a calmness you didn’t even know you were craving.
Honorable mentions:
- ‘Just To See You Smile’ (Cover)
- ‘Smoke’
- ‘I Get The Picture’

- Naughty List (A holiday album for Christmas in July?? Yes, please!)
