When funk meets rock and blues, you get your new favorite band: Penelope Road. The five-friend band is currently on their Summer Road Trip tour and took some time to sit down with us. We chatted signing with Warner Records, meeting fans IRL, and their new song ‘Flowers.’
Before we dive into our interview with Max, Charles, Koan, James, and Anthony, we encourage you to check out the band’s full discography here and let us know which song was your favorite in the comments below!

MEET THE BAND
Max, Charles, Koan, James, and Anthony – welcome to The Honey POP! We’re so thrilled to have you in our hive today. For readers who may not know you or your band, please share with us a few words to describe Penelope Road’s music and mission.
Hey! We’re Penelope Road, a five-piece alternative pop-rock band from Atlanta, GA. We have been trying to figure out the best way to describe our music for a long time and have ended up somewhere around those three words the most. Even though we all have very different musical influences, we always end up making something that feels new, and hope that everyone will enjoy or find something in our music.
There are five of you in this band. What makes your connection to each other unique, and when did you find that initial spark between the five of you?
We’ve been together now for around two years, and the connection’s still growing every time we get together. We feel lucky to be in such a supportive group where we all have the same goal. We share a strong passion for good musicianship and are pushing each other to improve every time we’re together.
How does the music of Penelope Road reflect each of you individually, and how does it reflect you all as a whole?
For us, the songs all represent what each of us individually can bring to the table — each one of us wants to serve our parts in the best way we can, and with all of us coming from different musical backgrounds and experiences, it’s always a fun journey to hear what comes from all these styles meshing together. With every song we write, it feels like we’re getting closer and closer to a polished and developed sound that feels like it represents us in the best way.

SIGNING TO WARNER RECORDS
You just signed to Warner Records – congrats! What does this next step in your music career mean to you all?
Getting picked up by Warner has been a dream come true. We know that with the support of a major label behind us, who are so dedicated to our success, we’re going to be able to really achieve the goals we’ve always talked about, which now feel not so far away.
The future is bright. What are your long-term goals for the next few years with Warner, and what are some short-term goals that you see coming into fruition later this year?
Long term, we’re looking to get our music in everyone’s ears and become a household name. We want to make music everyone can enjoy, and with Warner behind us, we think we can get that music to reach places we have always wanted it to. For this year, we can’t wait to finally get y’all some new music. We’ve got an EP on the way by the end of the year that shows what we have been working towards as a group, and we’re very, very excited about it.
OUR FAVORITE TRACKS
Your newest song, ‘Out Tonight,’ has been living on our May playlist. Talk to us about the rollout of that song and the way it’s been received by fans thus far.
That’s one of the songs that started this whole thing for us, and it’s been awesome to finally have it released and see everyone’s reactions. It’s the first music we have released since being signed, and it’s one of the first songs that we feel starts to really show the sound that we are beginning to discover and develop.
If one of our readers were to head to Spotify right now and check out your discography, what’s one song they should listen to first and why?
Definitely ‘Out Tonight.’ We love em all, but that’s the first of the five we have out that we’ve been this hyped about.
TOURING THE UNITED STATES
You’re headed on tour – congratulations! What’s the most challenging part about traveling and touring as a 5-person band?
Man, we probably all have different answers for this one, but collectively, we can definitely say that we are not going to miss our now-retired Big Red, a 2005 GMC Savanna, one bit. She did us well, but we’re more thankful than ever to have upgraded slightly on the transportation. Not having to sit 3 to a row on 8-hour long drives will be a huge plus.
How has seeing your music being received positively live, in-person, been like for each of you?
It’s unreal. We can’t wait to go on our first full cross-country tour and meet some of our fans that we’ve gained online. It’s kind of hard for us to visualize what sort of following we have until we hit the road and hear everyone singing all the words to our songs with us — and that feels so special. The support has been so cool for us to see, and we’ve had a great time getting to know as many of our supporters as we can.
Finally, we’d like to thank you again for chatting with us. Do you have any final words for our readers?
We’ve got tons of new music on the way, and we don’t plan on stopping, so stream ‘Out Tonight’ and ‘Flowers’ and get ready for a whole lot more. See you on the road!
