Looking for the perfect artist to start listening to so you can make the best playlists and impress your friends throughout 2026? No Love For The Middle Child is right here, and you’re just in time to check out his brand new single, ‘Ash on the Floor.’ It’s an edgy yet uplifting song about knowing it’s time to say goodbye to a relationship that isn’t serving you anymore. The key lyric, “I’m ashing on your floor, I got no respect,” works as a double entendre, highlighting how he got/received no respect and doesn’t hold respect for this person as a result.
No Love is an artist who consistently pours himself into his music and delivers so much to his fanbase, from awesome visuals to one-of-a-kind handmade lyric art. Even if you don’t think you’ve listened to his work before, there’s a good chance that his musical fingerprint is already all over your playlist. He has writing and production credits on songs like Maggie Lindemann’s ‘casualty of your dreams,’ TXT’s ‘0X1=LOVESONG,’ WILLOW & SIIICKBRAIN’s ‘PURGE,’ Olivia O’Brien’s ‘Born With A Broken Heart,’ Juice WRLD’s ‘Until The Plug Comes Back Around,’ and every single track on mgk’s lost americana album. He’s even become a standout member of mgk’s live band, playing guitar and electric cello! Speaking from our own experience, he brings such a cool energy to the stage that you won’t want to miss if the lost americana Tour is coming your way this year.
We got to catch up with No Love For The Middle Child a few days before he left for the European leg of mgk’s lost americana Tour to talk all about ‘Ash on the Floor,’ his creative process, playing cello, and more! Press play on ‘Ash on the Floor’ below and keep reading to check out our Q&A.
Hey No Love, congrats on the release of ‘Ash on the Floor!’ What does the song mean to you, and what was it like creating it?
Thank you! To me, the song is about confidence — sometimes the kind of confidence I don’t have and wish I did: the ability to know your worth and leave when you need to, despite what your heart is telling you. The song started as a slower acoustic track, which ended up being sped up, giving it its electronic sound.
There are so many relatable lyrics on ‘Ash on the Floor,’ with one of our favorites being “you disguise your heart with apathy.” Is there a certain line you’re especially proud of?
“I’m ashing on your floor, I got no respect.” It’s simple, but it feels quotable. I’ve had that line for a while, but it took some time to find the right song for it.
You told Unclear Magazine last fall that you remember seeing different colors when you first heard Pink Floyd’s The Wall. What colors do you think would capture ‘Ash on the Floor?’
I feel like with ‘Ash on the Floor,’ I really see yellow flashes with some grayish-blue vibes.
You’ve written and produced with so many talented artists, from mgk and Juice WRLD to TXT and Maggie Lindemann. How does your creative process differ when you’re working for someone else versus your own music?
I find my creative process varies, but when I’m writing for my own project — whether alone or with friends — I take a little more time. I’ll sometimes sit with songs for years, chipping away at the production or tweaking lyrics. Working with another artist is fun because you’re on a journey together, and you want to help their vision (or your vision for them) come to life.
In a similar vein, what’s something you’ve learned from working with another artist that you’ve carried into your own work?
mgk’s ability to translate his emotions into lyrics on the spot really inspires me and showed me a new way to write.
You’ve become a staple in mgk’s touring band and are about to embark on the European leg of the lost americana Tour. What has been your favorite part of bringing this album to life and celebrating Tickets to My Downfall’s anniversary last year?
It’s been so awesome seeing the songs we all made translate in these rooms and watching people sing along. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that. It’s also been sick playing the Tickets songs, because I remember when those tracks first dropped. I had just moved to L.A., and those songs totally dominated that summer. I’m so grateful to the gang for giving me this opportunity.
What does an average day look like for you while you’re on such an epic tour?
I try to work out, write some No Love music, hit catering (expeditiously), soundcheck, studio, show, studio. Long days, but great days. We all kick it in the studio and get some of the best ideas while on the road because it’s so inspiring. I’m excited to see Europe for the first time!
You played an incredible hometown show in Philly on the lost americana Tour. What was it like taking the stage so close to where you grew up?
I believe that venue was where I saw my first concert — Roger Waters from Pink Floyd. It was so awesome. My childhood friend, who actually put me on to mgk’s music, brought his daughter to the show, and she was able to come up onstage for a song. It was a really beautiful moment.
‘lonely’ is one of the most powerful moments in the tour setlist, and an already-emotional song is really elevated by your electric cello. You even played cello during the energetic ‘papercuts’ – we love that you’ve embraced your classical roots throughout your career! What does it mean to you to introduce modern music fans to classical instruments?
I love it because I was a little embarrassed growing up playing cello. I don’t know why it didn’t feel cool when I was a kid, but that feeling is actually what made me pick up a guitar in the first place. Fast forward, and now the cello is a big part of my career. Classical instruments don’t have to be put in a box — they’re so versatile.
lost americana is such a standout album, and you have credits on every song. Do you have a favorite track or memory from creating it?
That whole album was so fun to make, but I think my favorite memory was the session where we made ‘outlaw overture.’ It felt like the whole room was in sync. We used some pretty dope guitar pedals on that one, and finding that intro arp patch on the Prophet was actually the reason I bought my first synth.
You once said discovering Lil Wayne was a major reason you got into music production and named him as one of your dream collabs. You’ve since worked with him on ‘Alone In The Studio With My Gun,’ which must have been such a cool full-circle moment. What was that experience like?
Lil Wayne’s music played a huge role in my life. It made me fall in love with production and ultimately led me to pursue that over cello academically. For ‘Alone in the Studio,’ I didn’t work personally with Lil Wayne — Mod Sun made an awesome beat that mgk wrote a hook for. I later worked on the 808s and sang some falsetto vocals in the background of the hook, complementing what mgk and Mod created. I still can’t believe I was able to play a small part in that. I’m so grateful to be a part of it.
You describe yourself as a “bop doctor” in your Instagram bio, which is so real. What do you think are the essential ingredients of a bop?
Lyrics are so important to me, but if the production transports you somewhere else, there’s no better feeling. I think the ingredients can change, but the most important ingredient is honesty and authenticity.
What can fans look forward to in the rest of 2026 as you prepare your forthcoming album?
I’ll be dropping music, videos, and paintings regularly. New merch soon. New shows soon, too. I’m very excited.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with fans that we didn’t touch on?
Just keep an eye out for new music — I’m so excited to share it. I really appreciate y’all taking the time to ask me these questions!
