We’re not that far into 2026, but Laufey has already made it her year! She took home her second GRAMMY Award ever when A Matter Of Time won Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album at the beginning of February, and now she’s made a very special announcement. Drumroll please… we’ll be getting a deluxe edition called A Matter Of Time: The Final Hour in April, and ‘How I Get,’ the first new track, is officially ours!
With an immersive chord progression and Laufey’s beautiful vocals, ‘How I Get’ tells the story of a love that seems to bring her toward negative habits and mindsets. She reflects on how she gets drawn to vices like cigarettes, does things she’ll regret later, and swings between moods. We see it as a sister song to ‘Silver Lining,’ which appears on the standard version of A Matter Of Time. On ‘Silver Lining,’ she muses, “I’ve been falling in bad habits, staring into the abyss… When you go to Hell, I’ll go there with you, too. And when we’re punished for being so cruel, the silver lining’s I’ll be there with you.”
‘How I Get’ closes with a background vocal that we think shows how she gets back to herself: “The pendulum swings back around. I need more tempo, crave more sound.” The pendulum ties into the album’s time motif (think of an elegant grandfather clock with a swinging pendulum) and mirrors how it’s only a matter of time until that headspace becomes unsustainable to her. The tempo of a song is its speed, which musicians measure in beats per minute – Laufey explains in the press quote below that she lost control with this one person, but evidently needs a “beat” or some kind of organized routine to feel steady. Finally, “crave more sound” might speak to her love for music and how she uses it as an outlet for her emotions.
‘How I Get’ is about the contrast between being disciplined, grounded and in control in every area of my life, except when it comes to one person. It explores that unsettling shift where I suddenly find myself chasing the rush and justifying behavior I swore I’d never fall into, because with them, that’s just how I get.

‘How I Get’ is just the first song we’re getting from A Matter Of Time: The Final Hour, and we can’t even imagine what gems Laufey has in store for us with the remaining three unheard tracks! It seems like the new songs will still have a similar air of whimsy and magic to them while continuing the storylines and introspection that we heard on the original album.
“The Final Hour picks up where A Matter of Time left off,” Laufey explained on Instagram. “The light is softer, the air like spring after the storm, stepping into a new emotional chapter.”
If you’re planning on becoming a Laufey stan during this new chapter – which you should, in our humble opinion – then you have a lot to look forward to! Here’s a rundown of what we know about her 2026 plans so far:
