The day has finally arrived, everyone: Kangmin of VERIVERY has given us his first ever solo single album, Free Falling. Released on March 26, this album is the result of all his years of experience in the group as well as his time on Boys II Planet, both of which have made him face many questions and feelings. Free Falling is showing us a new side to Kangmin as a solo artist that we are very quickly falling in love with as well.

Debuting at such a young age, Kangmin grew up under the spotlight, and Free Falling is a reflection of that growth. His lyrics speak of the uncertainties and insecurities of being between childhood and adulthood. The title? A reference to the moment between uncontrollably falling and orienting oneself in the air. It’s not perfect, but it’s on the way there. Kangmin is focusing on the journey rather than the final destination, and we love to see it.
We can tell Kangmin was a part of every step of this single album, from the writing of the tracks all the way to the production, leaving his mark on the entire body of work for us to enjoy. One thing we loved about Free Falling is how it speaks of one person’s experiences, but it speaks to the feelings of many.
We start off with ‘Intro : small, fragile and still here’, a lo-fi inspired track that sounds like old cassette tapes and nostalgia, paired with delicate vocals that narrate his desire to shine while also dealing with his own feelings. From that, we move on to the title track, ‘Free Falling,’ a more contemporary R&B pop song depicting the constant oscillation between love and hurt between two people. Finally, we end on ‘in the mirror,’ a mid-tempo pop song that blends deep basslines with Kangmin’s amazing vocals and leaving us with a taste of “I need more” in our mouths.
