Madison Beer’s locket era was already a total dream, but she’s really taking that to the next level with the locket tour! From the castle-like set that includes a light-up carousel frame, to the career-spanning setlist, to seeing Mads dance around and have the time of her life, these shows will truly be something we keep in our metaphorical lockets for a very long time.
After a dreamy intro with visuals inspired by a swan-shaped Tunnel Of Love ride – yes, those swan teasers finally have context – Madison takes the stage with high-energy hits like ‘YES BABY’ and ‘BOYSH*T’ to get the crowd going. We eventually step into the locket era with ‘bad enough’ and those live vocals are just as unreal as you’d expect them to be, with some parts even seeing Madison sing higher than the studio version.
Another VCR video shows Madison leaning over a miniature version of the set, as if she’s a builder reviewing a diorama of her next project. It’s a cute metaphor for how meticulously she’s built a visual world around her work, culminating in this tour! She appropriately rises up out of part of the carousel set for ‘Reckless,’ as if it’s the music box in the song’s intro. The next section of the show lets Madison interact with the crowds a lot, and she gives the cutest grateful speech before ‘somehow i got lucky.’
We get a surprise song moment a little later: a heart-shaped box includes lyrics from three different songs, and the crowd picks which one they’d like to hear. How can you even pick?! Madison then launches into perhaps the most devastating 3-song run of her touring career with ‘Spinnin,’ ‘Selfish,’ and ‘you’re still everything’ right after one another.
The next VCR interlude sees Madison playing an Operation-style game while Radiohead plays, removing small items like a locket and a broken heart from the game board. She comes back for an angelic performance of ‘angel wings’ under the carousel awning before heading to the balcony for ‘Baby.’ The fan favorite ‘complexity’ is definitely a highlight, and she rewards the crowd’s energy with a barricade walk during ‘lovergirl!’ The main set closes with ‘make you mine,’ but we get a confetti-filled encore with ‘bittersweet’ to end the night.
