There’s a never-ending debate on which artist loves their fans more, and while there’s no definitive answer, Big Ocean is arguably winning right now. After unforeseen circumstances forced them to cancel their European tour on their second anniversary, Chanyeon, PJ, and Jiseok hopped on live to speak directly with their fans, PADO, about the situation. Devastation was written over their faces, and you could tell their hearts were as broken as their dedicated fanbase’s.
While their company, Parastar Entertainment, is working relentlessly behind the scenes to schedule a new tour to Europe, Big Ocean decided that wasn’t enough. On Sunday, May 17th, they held an exclusive concert for ticket holders of the canceled leg. And while the performance wasn’t on the scale of a high production that you’d expect from a group from a more established entertainment company, you could see the love that was put into every moment of the show. Taking place at their company’s building, the DIY camerawork, letting PADO choose cute accessories for the boys to wear during a performance, and fan chants turning into emoji chants made the whole thing so wholesome and meaningful, feeling more personal than any other online concert we’ve ever seen.

But the love fest for PADO didn’t stop there. Towards the end of the show, a clip revealed three handwritten letters by each member, their personal thoughts and apologies regarding the tour being canceled, and how much they love and miss their beloved fans. That’s when they began to perform a brand new single as a surprise, with lyrics that really hit home about the situation. At the end of their performance, it was revealed to be their new single ‘Make It Up To You,’ which releases on Tuesday, May 19th. Our hearts!
The new single was written within a week, during what would have been the European tour dates, and saw them reunite with GRAMMY Award-winning Frankie Biggz, following their previous creative collaboration for their third mini-album The Greatest Battle. The new single blends 70’s disco-funk with modern city-pop and is truly a personal letter of love for the PADO who missed out. The cities that were part of the tour were called out by name, with local language phrases even entwined into the lyrics.
Speaking about the song and everything that happened, Big Ocean, who are always so vocal about how much they love their fans, shared: “We couldn’t be there in person, but we never stopped thinking about you. This song is our way of saying — we’re coming back, and we’ll make it up to you.”
This is your reminder to never settle for less! Because if Big Ocean can do this, then there’s really no excuse.
‘Make It Up To You’ is out May 19th.
