When it comes to simply addictive electropop, no one’s doing it quite like PNAU right now. This trio has been dominating our playlists with tracks like their remix of Elton John and Dua Lipa’s ‘Cold Heart,’ and they’re back at it with ‘You Know What I Need!’ This electrifying collab with Troye Sivan has been living in our minds rent-free since it dropped, but we can’t be annoyed when it’s such a bop.
Over a funky, otherworldly instrumental, Troye laments a back-and-forth relationship while plainly calling out the one who’s hurting him: “let’s not lie, you know you don’t die for me.” Ouch. Knowing that the person you’d do anything for wouldn’t put in the same amount of effort as you hurts, but it’ll definitely sting a little less if you dance along to ‘You Know What I Need.’
I’m so happy this song is coming out just before the Australian summer – it sounds like a beach festival to me and I am stoked to have it out.

So we described the instrumental as otherworldly, but we should’ve considered saving that description for the awe-inspiring ‘You Know What I Need’ music video! The clip reimagines a phone video recording of Troye into an intergalactic wonderland that makes us feel like we woke up in another dimension. The team behind the video used AI animation to place Troye in different settings, alter his face, and more. Very trippy, but very impressive!
The brief was crazy from the beginning – make it look like a DMT trip inspired by the Stargate sequence from 2001: Space Odyssey. I mean, this is the best brief we’ve ever got, and we recently used a brain-computer interface to develop real-time live visuals for Netflix and Hania Rani, so we’re used to weird and crazy stuff.

‘What [We] Need’ ASAP is more PNAU x Troye Sivan songs, because ‘You Know What I Need’ is already one of our favorite releases of 2022. Maybe a PNAU remix of a classic Troye hit like ‘Angel Baby’ or ‘Youth?’ The possibilities are endless!
