Sluggish is definitely not the word we would use to describe the way we are feeling over Matt Champion’s newest drop, ‘Slug.’ We’re ecstatic that Matt is back to reclaim the music industry with sounds that are uniquely his own. If you know Matt Champion’s name but haven’t heard his solo music, you’ll want to jump on the train immediately! From ‘Fangs’ to ‘Mansions,’ Matt Champion proves his star abilities for alt-pop and R&B lovers worldwide.
Visuals And Sound Exploration
Following suit in style to his previous solo drops, ‘Slug’ also explores a twist of new sounds for the singer. Fans can expect to hear the same mellow lyrics, but with a more upbeat tempo that just might make you want to get up and groove. We certainly nod our heads and tap our feet when we listen to it. Matt’s voice also seems to be strained, really emphasizing the want and need for love that Matt is expressing in the lyrics.
The clear standout of this track is the occasional high-pitched “ahhhhh” that has clearly been altered by producers Henry Kwapis and Matt himself. We love songs that have heavy production and that use voice-altering technology. Adding new layers to a basic song structure can completely transform a song for the better, and ‘Slug’ proves just that. Although many of Matt’s songs play with this type of production, ‘Slug’ seems to touch on something new that makes our ears tingle with excitement. Our only hope is that Matt continues to explore this sound in the future.
“Won’t You Be My Slug?“
When Matt sings, “Won’t you be my slug?” we’re not really sure what that means, however, we love it! If Matt wants us to be his slug, 🐌 we certainly will! We already follow him everywhere he goes, and today is no different. The lyrics in this song make us want to hold tight to the love we already have, and extend a little more to Matt, but, that is not hard! There’s always room in our slug hearts for Matt Champion!
