We experienced some serious 2010’s indie nostalgia with The Drums’ sold-out show at The Observatory in Santa Ana. We were lucky to be able to see one of the two sold-out shows! It was the perfect way to end the year just one day before New Year’s Eve.

To start the night, The Drums’ frontman, Jonny Pierce, opened the set with ‘You’re The One That Makes Me Happy.’ It was a perfectly intimate moment as we anticipated the more upbeat songs we all know and love. Jonny was softly backlit with orange hues and hazy lights. His band supported him perfectly with well-executed timing and rhythm. With ‘Best Friend’ as the next song, we sang our hearts out with “ahh’s” and “ooh’s” during the chorus. The crowd grew wilder as they played our favorites, ‘Days,’ ‘I Don’t Know How To Love,’ and ‘What You Were.’ The Drums played a strong variation of songs ranging from Portamento to Abysmal Thoughts.

To end the night, The Drums’ encore included ‘Let’s Go Surfing’ and ‘Money.’ We saved our best moves for last, and Jonny did not shy away from dancing with us. We could feel the blissful energy all around us. The night closed the same way it started, with a more intimate solo performance by Jonny. It was a magnetic performance we’ll never forget and the cathartic release we all needed!
We can’t wait to see The Drums and dance our hearts out again! Check out some of our favorite highlights from our gallery below:
