Will Linley is fresh off a debut run of releases back in 2022 in which the singer-songwriter has grown into a name that we at The Honey POP have grown to love and adore. Born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa, Will Linely emerged on our radar following the release of debut single ‘miss me (when you’re gone)’ which was initially teased on TikTok. Since then, we have seen the releases of singles ‘i don’t wanna be yours,’ ‘wrong time,’ and ‘Last Call’ in 2022.
We at THP were fortunate enough to catch Will perform at Rockwood Music Hall in NYC for an intimate set that gave audiences the chance to get to know the musician and hear unreleased tracks!
Highlights Of Our Night
Performing an intimate selections of songs including lots of unreleased gems, the set captured an intimate, emotionally wrought experience that pulls at the heartstrings of any listeners. (We’re talking the top of our “we’re in our feels” playlist!) Linley’s vulnerable lyricism paired with a stripped down acoustic sound made for an experience that has stayed with us ever since, Honey Poppers.
With an incomparable sound, there is no need to compare and instead, we recommend Will Linely as a listen for those who love our indie darlings DWLLRS and JVKE. Who, while boasting a range of energy across their discographies, share themes of connection with an overall reflective, and uplifting tone.
Standout moments of the night included the live rendition of ‘Last Call’ and the unreleased ‘Gracie’ the latter of the tracks, as Linely described the song as being dedicated to the person they’d end up with. Through hearing the lyricism “Are you blonde or brunette? // All that it takes is you,” with striking soundbites paired with an acoustic guitar to accompany, the audience’s focus never shifted. In every lyric, Linely reflected on themes of love and searching that hit a chord with us. This is an artist we highly recommend checking out more from!
