We have been absolutely obsessed with Eighty Ninety for a while now. Watching these two brothers continue to make somehow even more and more all-encompassing music has been absolutely jaw-dropping for us. And their newest release, ‘Stay Alive,’ is the perfect example of what we mean. We haven’t been able to stop listening to this track since it dropped.
This release marks the second from their upcoming debut album that’s due to release sometime this year! This emotional ballad turned pop masterpiece is like looking into the journals of the James brothers. The melodies and rhythms remind us of a 1975/Cavetown dream mashup we didn’t know we needed until we found it. And don’t even get us started on those sultry vocals that you want to just sink into as you follow them along this journey.
A song that’s all about how we deal with the emotions that are so heavy we’d rather not feel them at all, Abner had this to say about ‘Stay Alive’
‘Stay Alive’ is about how our struggles with mental health can affect our relationships and how the things we do to cope and the people we love — and who love us — can help to get us through life’s hardest moments. For my whole life, music has been one of the tools I turn to as a listener and a musician, but I’ve never directly addressed it in a song before.
Abner James

Abner says this song was his way of making a promise to be there for himself and show himself the support he shows the people in his life. And honestly? We think that’s something we all should actively focus on doing too. Taking care of yourself is the only way to take care of the people you love. And we love that Eighty Ninety gets that.
