Birdy’s ‘Paradise Calling’ Music Video Has Us Calling Paradise

Birdy is an English singer and songwriter best known for her cover of Bon Iver’s ‘Skinny Love’ and her song ‘Not About Angels’ featured in the 2014 film The Fault In Our Stars. Her songs have also been featured on several Pixar, Netflix, and Amazon soundtracks. Birdy recently teased her upcoming studio album, Portraits, out on August 18, 2023, with a new single, ‘Paradise Calling.’ The music video for ‘Paradise Calling’ was released on July 21, 2023, and it has increased our excitement for Portraits. You can pre-order Portraits here.

The Excellence That Is The Song

Before we dive into the music video, let’s just take a moment to talk about the song itself because, oh my god! Have a listen to ‘Paradise Calling,’ in addition to other singles from Portraits, if you haven’t already here! Or listen to it even if you have already heard it because what a great song, right? We here at The Honey Pop could not stop ourselves from getting up and dancing along to the music the first time we heard ‘Paradise Calling.’ The funky, pop-rock, and energetic music is so different from what we have previously heard from Birdy. But we are not complaining! The song just makes you feel so happy and joyful. We fell in love before the first verse was even over.

The song has such a main-character vibe to it, we love it. In our opinion, ‘Paradise Calling’ is the song to blast while driving down the highway in summer with your windows wide open. Or for dancing along with friends or when you are alone in your bedroom. You can read more about why we love ‘Paradise Calling’ here!

The Vivacious Music Video

But now let’s talk about the music video, which you can watch above or here. Directed by Max McLachlan, the ‘Paradise Calling’ music video is perfectly in tune with the music and lyrics. The alternating between Birdy dancing in a meadow during the day and at night pays the perfect ode to her lyrics, “We could find a way out of the dark. This could be the spark.” Additionally, there is a bright and shining white orb floating above Birdy at nighttime which we think is in reference to her lyric, “When I was your star.”

Birdy’s dancing in the ‘Paradise Calling’ music video matches the energy and atmosphere of the song perfectly. It has us up and dancing along with her too. We cannot wait to see what Birdy has in store for us with Portraits. But if the single and music video are anything to go by, Portraits might just be the perfect end-of-summer album of 2023.

Upcoming Tour Dates

Following her brilliant new single and its accompanying music video, Birdy has also announced three exclusive US shows to perform her album, Portraits, for the very first time in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
