YONAKA And Their New EP Welcome To My House Is Certainly Welcome In This House

YONAKA is a name on everyone’s lips, including ours. The three-piece band released their latest EP, Welcome To My House, on the 28th of July, solidifying them as a breakthrough band to keep your eye on. Theresa Jarvis (vocals), Alex Crosby (bass), and George Webrouck-Edwards (guitar) originate from the UK, along with so many of the most prevalent alt-rock bands at the moment. After their smash hit, ‘Seize The Power,’ YONAKA relies on distorted instrumentals and a mix of shouting and singing in Welcome To My House to show off what they are capable of.

And we’ve picked our three favorite songs from YONAKA’s Welcome To My House to tell you all about.

Buckle up, because we’re about to tell you all about your new favorite artist.

‘By The Time You’re Reading This’

YONAKA opens the EP with this banger. The song is saturated with pop techniques such as endless synth and a catchy, upbeat rhythm. The bass guitar builds up into the pre-chorus before cutting out and being replaced with acoustic guitars before they switch it up again (there’s something about a song giving us whiplash that we love). The chorus bursts into a perfect pop-rock chorus. Such a good song.

‘Welcome To My House’

A steady backbeat and deep synth create an air of mystery in ‘Welcome To My House’ before bursting into a classic rock-style chorus with a modern twist. The dark-pop essence of the song is borderline addictive, and Jarvis’s vocals are absolutely spectacular in this song, embodying the essence of frontwomen in rock-n-roll bands. Jarvis proclaims, “Tired of fighting for respect / Tired of absence and neglect / I reflect like a mirror,” in the second verse, and it spoke to us on another level.

‘I Want More’

Channeling some punk influences, the bassline in this song absolutely crushes. We love how upbeat and fun the song feels, embodying the idea of not caring at all, and just wanting to live life. We adore the synths and the energy that this song encompasses, and it inspires us to stop caring as well (…as if that’s ever gonna happen). The punk influence is accompanied by thrashing guitars and shouts, before the melody kicks in during the chorus, with Jarvis speaking, in an almost deadpan tone. We love it, but we’ve said that already, haven’t we?
