The second trailer is finally here, and it’s gotten us even more excited for The Hunger Games prequel. The new trailer clocks in at just under 3 minutes, and it has given us plenty of content, including a small preview of Lucy Baird’s (aka Rachel Zegler) version of ‘The Hanging Tree.’ It has also shown us some snippets of scenes from the book that are crucial to the plot, and we wanted to dive into a few of those moments that we’re particularly eager to see on the big screen!
Here’s your warning, honey! This article discusses scenes from the book The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and, therefore, spoilers for the upcoming film. If you want to learn more about the plot, read on, but if you want to keep it a secret, now is the time to head back to our homepage!
Lucy Baird And The Covey

One of the things we’re most excited to see is our District 12 tribute, Lucy Gray Baird, and the other Covey. According to Lucy, the Covey were nomadic people who traveled across Panem prior to and during the first rebellion against the Capitol. They eventually end up in District 12, where those who have survived frequently play live music to earn their living. We can’t wait to see them brought to life on screen and hopefully hear a few of their songs translated off of the page! However, we just know the scene in this photo is going to break our hearts, so let’s not talk about that right now…
Coriolanus Snow And Volumnia Gaul

Here, we can see an exchange between our protagonist and antagonist. The mentor and mentee exchanges throughout the book begin to chip away at the good left in Snow and shape the dark character we know from the original trilogy. We’re sure there will be some chilling scenes between the two of them, particularly those that take place when another mentor inserts themselves into the games, and Snow is instructed to stop their interference. Tbh we’re already pretty scared of Viola Davies’ Dr. Gaul ourselves; she looks utterly terrifying.
Tigress

Tigress, who you might remember from Mockingjay Part 2, is Coriolanus Snow’s cousin. She tries to act as his moral compass and encourages him to try and be empathetic and treat the tributes with respect and dignity. We also see her love for fashion and her attempts to help their financially struggling family fit in with the other Capitol Elite. We know Hunter Schafer is going to be the perfect Tigress. We would love to see her interacting with Lucy ahead of the interviews and them bonding over the dresses they share or some of her experience during the first uprising.
The Zoo

The Zoo is quite possibly one of the cruelest parts of the early Hunger Games, with tributes essentially left to rot while being gawked at by the Capitol citizens. When Snow is thrown into the zoo with the tributes, we really see him starting to act tactically and present Lucy to the onlookers. It’s the beginning of the spectacle and one of the first interactions with Lucky Flickerman, the OG host and, yes, father of fan-favorite Caesar Flickerman from the original trilogy. A lot goes down here, and we’re so interested to see how they bring it to life in the film!
With just over a month to go until The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is out, we’re already planning our cinema trips! If you’re a book lover and haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, now would be the best time to add it to your TBR list! Here’s a link, besties. Don’t forget to check out the full trailer in all its glory below; we got full-body shivers the first time we watched it (and every rewatch since). It’s going to be one of those films you really can’t miss!
