Carly Rae Jepsen is one of the very few artists who have been making pop hits year after year. From our nerdy middle school days to our impulsive college days, we’ve been blasting her discography for every new emotion felt. She just gets us like that. To celebrate her ongoing success and our favorite Carly songs, we’re taking a blast back in time starting in 2012….
2012
There’s no denying that this era of pop music was everything and more. Carly Rae Jepsen certainly contributed hit after hit in her album Kiss 💋. Our favs are ’Good Time’ feat. Owl City and ‘Beautiful’ feat. Justin Bieber (yes, we still have Bieber Fever). But don’t worry; we’re not forgetting about ‘Call Me Maybe’ and the earth-shattering effect it had on us in middle school. We were strutting down the hallways seeking our very own love interest…
2015
It’s hard to beat the iconic album that was Kiss, but Emotion certainly is up there for us. It’s 17 songs full of heartbreak, love, longing, and loss, and we turn this album on whether we need a good dance or a good cry. Our favs come in at ‘Run Away With Me’ and ‘I Didn’t Just Come Here To Dance.’ We wish we could tell Carly ‘I Really Like You’ all day!
2019
From 2015 to 2019, the pop girlies were suffering without any new Carly Rae Jepsen music. As the middle school ‘Call Me Maybe’ lovers were entering college, Dedicated and Dedicated Side B brought 2019 to a full halt. A highly underrated album full of songs about what true happiness means for Carly; our favs are ‘Let’s Sort The Whole Thing Out,’ ‘Party For One,’ and ‘Summer Love.’ 🌞 The themes on this album get a bit more mature, and we start to hear a more playful adult version of Carly emerge in 2019.
2022
With Carly’s music, we’re never lonely, especially with the intoxicating songs on The Loneliest Time. This album has our favorite cover art – simple and elegant as we see Carly stripped from the pop image she’s been sporting for so long. She opens the album with her first explicit song, ‘Surrender My Heart,’ 💘 a sign of maturity and risk-taking in her new image. Our favs from this album are ‘Western Wind’ and ‘Bad Thing Twice.’
2023
Welcome to 2023! A complete 180 from the year before, we get The Loveliest Time. At this point, we’ve been following Carly’s career and listening to her music since 2012, and we’re so proud of her success! Coming in at number one is ‘Kamikaze,’ which makes us feel electrified and confident! Now that we’re old enough to hit the clubs, we’re requesting this song from every DJ 🎶 we can. Right behind it comes ‘Shy Boy’ and ‘After Last Night.’ Shy boys who make us make bad decisions are our favorite 🤭.
We can’t wait to see what Carly cooks up in the studio next! We’d love to hear some holiday songs from her this year, or a brand new album next year 👀. Tell us your favorite Carly Rae Jepsen song in the comments below or by buzzing with us over on Twitter and Instagram!
