We’re officially in absolute fangirl mode because our next exclusive interview guest is none other than Maryjo 🩷! In this interview, get to know MJ a bit better by hearing about her new single ‘Drunk Tattoo,’ her unique songwriting process, potential vault tracks, and what surprises she has planned for fans for 2024 👀.
Congratulations on your newest track, ‘Drunk Tattoo’! What was the most exciting part of creating this project?
Thank you! The most exciting part of creating this project was being in the room with the whole crew and turning a funny comment about a drunk tattoo into a song!
Do you have any tattoos? Which one is your favorite and why? Any you are looking to get in the future?
I have 10 tattoos! My favorite one is probably all the ones on my arm. I just think where they’re placed is so cute! I’m totally getting more, but I like small tattoos. I really want to get an outline of a bear because my alter ego’s name on stage is “Bear.”
We are so excited to watch your success grow this year! Do you have any specific goals for 2024 (music-related or not)?
My goal for 2024 is definitely to be on more tours and to hopefully headline soon as well.
We love your lyrics! Talk about your songwriting process and what makes it unique to you.
Thank you!! The songwriting process is different in every room. Sometimes I already have something written that I bring, which we can tweak or build upon. Other times, it’s totally from scratch and it’s whatever we all are feeling in the room and everyone’s energy.
Congrats on starting the new year off touring! What’s the most exciting part about touring? What are you looking forward to the most?
Thank you, I LOVE touring! My favorite part is seeing how much every member of the band and I grow with every show. It was all of our first time, so it’s exciting to see how this keeps building! I’m looking forward to all of us being in arenas, rocking out one day, and witnessing the progress of our stage presence!
What messages do you hope your fans take away from ‘Drunk Tattoo’ or any of your other personal projects?
I hope my fans take away that everyone goes for someone they regret; you have to grab a lot of thorns before you get to the roses, and it’s a part of finding the right guy/girl!
If you could pick just one lyric to describe your vision for 2024, what would it be?
A lyric would probably be “Ready,” “determined,” “inspired,” something like that…
Is there anything else that you want your fans, or new fans reading this, to know about your music and what we can expect from MJ this year?
I have a ton of songs in the vault that are ready to be released! It’s exciting to put them out and I will be getting to perform them on tour. I’m hoping everyone enjoys them!!
