‘Gums Lost Flavor’ is a song that we started here in Tulsa and fleshed out further in Mexico … It’s a song about realizing that a relationship, whether that be with a person or even a substance or a behavior pattern, is unhealthy and it’s also just about the pursuit of something better and healthier for your life.”

The idea of ‘Gums Lost Flavor’ is a metaphor we can get behind. They’re not pulling any punches, the song literally starts with:
“I let you take me til you hollowed me out
Now i’m craving familiar taste in my mouth“
That feeling of letting something or someone take and take and take from you until you have nothing left is a hollowness many of us are sadly all too familiar with. Putting it into words like this with the comparison of gum losing its flavor makes this one of those songs we see ourselves repeating over and over again. It has The Ivy‘s signature airy, silky, indie-pop feel that we’ve come to know and love. Who knew self-reflection could sound so fun while making us so emotional?
‘Gums Lost Flavor’ joins ‘Be Like You,’ ‘Street Dog,’ and ‘Good Faith,’ in the A Door Still Open singles lineup. These four tracks alone have us super stoked for the album, and our excitement is growing as February 23rd gets closer!
