Valencia Grace is Thriving With EP Roses

We’ve just discovered our new favorite storyteller. And you know us, we had to share it with you! Valencia Grace’s EP Roses is a must-listen for fans of strong female voices. Roses tells a story of healing and reflection, and Valencia makes it impossible not to listen. In case you need more convincing, we’ll go through the whole EP!

‘Estranged’

After a beautiful string opening, Valencia thrusts us right into the story. ‘Estranged’ works through the effects of her complicated relationship with her family. Because she starts off slow, she immediately shows off her incredible vocals. Her deep, raspy voice is something we simply can’t turn off.

‘Opera’

While stunning, the simplicity of ‘Estranged’ is not all Valencia has to offer. From the opening note in ‘Opera,’ we can tell this is going to be dramatic. The chorus is chaotic in the best way possible. We can’t decide if we should listen to the sharp beat, the ticking metronome, the striking strings, or her drawing notes.

‘Roses’

‘Roses’ is the best of both worlds. It opens with, “How could I stop forgiving you?” So there’s no doubt this one is going to hurt. But she also introduces a steady beat and a catchy melody. If you’d like a song stuck in your head all day that may also make you reflect on your whole life and every past relationship, this is the one for you.

‘Skin’

As Valencia reminds us at the beginning of this song, she is twenty years old. We can’t believe what a glamorous, mature voice she has for such a young artist. ‘Skin’ really highlights her voice, and makes the claim that she is “finally thriving.” If this EP is about healing, ‘Skin’ is where it all comes together in a triumphant finale.

‘Speechless’

While ‘Skin’ is when she begins to thrive, ‘Speechless’ shows a Valencia who has accepted her life, challenges and all. She looks back on her childhood and begs someone to fix things. After all, she wonders aloud, “How am I supposed to help? I’m only nine years old.” ‘Speechless’ may be our favorite song on Roses. It manages to bring together the theme of the EP and all the best qualities of each of the other songs.
