Need a new motivational anthem to get you inspired to take action towards your dreams? skaiwater and Lil Nas X totally have you covered with their new collab, ‘light!,’ which is notably the first time that Nas has ever featured on another artist’s song. With immersive production by 9lives, the best way we can describe the sound of ‘light!’ is “cosmic,” which makes total sense considering skaiwater and Lil Nas X have been landing among the stars in recent years!
The song sees skai and Nas looking back on the days of high school romances and the doubt they’ve faced over the years, as well as celebrating how far they’ve come in their careers. “I just had a lightbulb, I’m tryna break the cycle,” skaiwater sings on the chorus. They’ve each stepped into a whole new cycle of their lives and the skai is the limit for the heights they can go!
‘light!’ came together at the end of 2023. I wanted to try my hand at a revival of the jerk wave and when Nas heard the record he immediately wanted to put a verse down. As a longtime friend, I think him and I feel like this was the right time to collaborate.

We’ve loved getting to watch skaiwater and Lil Nas X’s friendship blossom over the years! From funny social media interactions to skai’s writing credit on Nas’ ‘Holiday,’ to linking up on the Long Live Montero Tour in the UK and Europe, fans of both artists have been totally spoiled. And yes, we’ve been some of those lucky fans, of course! They’re each paving their own unique path to the top of the music scene without sacrificing any part of who they are. And what’s more fun than doing that with a cool friend by your side?
Now that skaiwater and Lil Nas X have officially collabed, we’re daydreaming about when they’ll team up again! We’d love to hear Nas hop on a remix of one of skai’s songs, like the R&B-influenced ‘run,’ or for skai to appear on a new song for Nas’ next album. The possibilities are seriously endless for these two and we’re so excited to see what the future brings.
