Sheryl Crow is one of the most immersive storytellers we know, and we can’t lie, we shed a few tears when she said she wouldn’t make another album after 2018’s Threads. So you could imagine how excited we were to hear she was releasing another full project with Evolution! Sheryl picked up right where she left off and has delivered yet another collection of incredible songs. Evolution is a beautiful mix of escapism through dreams and memories, and acknowledging your current reality while being aware that it, and you, are subject to change. It’s such a comforting album that we know we’ll be returning to time and time again!
I started sending just a couple demos to Mike [Elizondo, producer], but the songs kept flowing out of me, and it was pretty obvious this was going to be an album. This music and these lyrics came from sitting in the quiet and writing from a deep soul place. I said I’d never make another record—thought there was no point to it, but this music comes from my soul. I hope whoever hears this record can feel that.

Everyone has bad days, it’s unfortunately just a part of life. But for the sunshine to come in, you need to let it! If you’re into self-improvement, there’s a good chance you’ve seen a lot of posts online about being independent, only leaning on yourself, and not owing anything to anyone. And while that can be empowering, it’s important to remember not to stray too far from your loved ones or shut out any good energy or care that comes your way. Why close off if you can put good energy into the world and make others feel more appreciated? ‘Where?’ really is that song!

One of the worst kinds of heartbreak is the kind where you and the person you love are just different people than you were at the start of your relationship. But on the flip side, that kind of evolution (see what we did there?) can make each of you and your connection stronger, if you work to keep it! ‘Don’t Walk Away’ is a testament to real, true love that you’re willing to fight for, even if things look bleak at times.

On ‘Broken Record,’ Sheryl observes the negativity in the world and on social media but ultimately decides that “love wins” in the end. It’s a reminder that trends and viral moments will pass, and what’s truly important is how we treat ourselves and others. In the face of that kind of negativity and anger, we need to keep marching on and being our true selves!
“I’ll take the world off your shoulders for a minute…”
‘Waiting In The Wings’ is Sheryl’s letter of appreciation and admiration for someone in her life who needs support, and there are so many sweet lyrics that pull at our heartstrings! We ultimately chose this one as our favorite because we think it’s applicable to music as well – Sheryl’s work is always there for fans like us to escape from the world and our struggles, even if it’s just with one song for a few minutes.
