5 Breakup Songs That Will Help You Through The Heartache: One Emotion At A Time

It’s time to say farewell to Valentine’s Day as the season of love comes to an end, and what better way to say goodbye than with a list of some recently released breakup songs? (there is no better way, obviously!)

These five songs share raw, intimate feelings about breakups that some people won’t dare touch, including a little bit of angsty rage, which we are here for! We’re here for ALL. OF. IT. because you can’t go through a breakup without feeling all these emotions and more, which is why these five songs are perfect for that “Heart Meet Break” playlist we know you’ve been blaring. So, without further ado, grab your tissues, emotional support chocolate, and your singing voice, and let’s get to it!

‘Joke’s On Me’ – Sofia Carson

It wouldn’t be a breakup song playlist without one of the most heart-wrenching songs to ever exist. ‘Joke’s On Me’ is Sofia’s most recent release, and we are in our feels with tears streaming down our faces over the goosebump-inducing vocals and soul-shattering lyrics. Sofia put a piece of her heart and soul into this track, and we want to give her a big hug for all the emotional distress this song evokes (in the best way ever for a breakup song).

‘Don’t Call Me’ – Alemeda

The early 2000’s vibes of this song are beyond fabulous *chefs kiss*, and yes, we are obsessed with it, thank you for asking! We love a good revenge breakup song, and ‘Don’t Call Me’ has all the elements that make it our new go-to listen. It’s such a bop and the perfect addition to any heartbreak playlist you can think up!

‘Son Of A B**ch’ – Jessie Murph

We have fallen head-over-heels in love with Jessie Murph. Not only does she have the vocals of a goddess, but she always has the most relatable and phenomenal lyrics that strike you from the very first note. ‘Son Of A B**ch’ is one of the most badass breakup songs we’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to! We love the soft rage the song unveils, and the fact that scream-singing it is probably the most therapeutic way to get over an ex. Overall, we stan. HARD.

‘Turned Into Missing You’ – Max McNown

We have the perfect song for you if you’ve reached the point of a breakup where you are over the initial hurt of it all, but you hear a song that makes you think of them or a photo you forgot to delete and you start reminiscing. Then all of that starts a snowball effect and turns into missing them all over again. We have a song for that, too! Don’t worry; it’s all part of the healing process. It’s okay to go through this period of a broken heart, and luckily, you have us to give you the gift of amazing tunes to accompany you. You’re welcome!

‘You Should Run’ – Missy Higgins

This particular song was written about divorce and the aftermath of that decision (especially with kids in the picture and trying to find love again after the heartbreak), but it’s the foundation for all relationships (or breakups rather) when you break it down. The time after a breakup when you are living in the aftermath of it all: struggling with the changes, missing the other person, feeling sorry for yourself, worrying about the person who chooses to love you next – it’s going to be tough, but hopefully, when its all said and done you will except each other despite everything. It’s a stunning song with a beautiful message.
