Over here at The Honey POP, lives were changed with the announcement of the ‘Stick Season’/’Lacy’ Record Store Day exclusive vinyl. We’re pretty confident these covers were tailored specifically for us. And, of course, for our lovely readers! Olivia Rodrigo and Noah Kahan are two of our favorite artists, so you can imagine our initial reactions to their covers of each other’s songs.
If you want to find us on April 20, we will be waiting outside our local record stores for a chance to secure this gem. And if you, too, refuse to pass up a chance to buy this combo of covers, you might as well pick up a few other records. The list of exclusives (which can be found here) can be pretty intimidating, but don’t worry! If you like ‘Stick Season’/’Lacy,’ we’ve got a few suggestions for you.
I Was/I Am – Noah Kahan
We know what you’re thinking: if you’re buying ‘Stick Season’/’Lacy,’ you may have already seen the other Noah Kahan record. However, since Stick Season was so popular, not everyone has yet experienced the masterpiece that is his earlier work. It was only last year that the albums before Stick Season became available on vinyl. And as your resident I Was/I Am stans, this is a must-buy for us. To the Olivia Rodrigo fans who love the covers but haven’t heard many Noah Kahan songs yet: you can’t go wrong with any of his music. And I Was/I Am is a great place to start!
‘Into Your Room’ – Holly Humberstone/MUNA
We know all of you Livies will love this one. Especially fans of her more upbeat songs like ‘love is embarrassing’ and ‘bad idea, right?‘ Olivia was really onto something back in 2022 when she had Holly be her opener for the Sour tour because Holly has done nothing but amaze us ever since. ‘Into Your Room’ is perfect for anyone looking for a good time. And MUNA, known for being impossible not to dance to, only elevated the already incredible song. Lucky for us, this song will be pressed for the first time for Record Store Day.
ALL MY LITTLE SHOOTING STARS – Briston Maroney
Briston Maroney’s collection is a perfect mix of Olivia’s style and Noah’s lyrics. With ALL MY LITTLE SHOOTING STARS, he includes all the fan favorites from his previous EPs! They’re fan favorites for a reason, so we can guarantee that you’ll find something you like on this record. Like Noah, a lot of Briston’s music focuses on location. ‘Stick Season’ is about feeling stuck in your hometown, and that’s definitely a theme you can find in Briston’s music. Specifically his song, ‘Virginia,’ which talks about his one “chance to get out of Virginia.”
The Good Witch Deluxe – Maisie Peters
Depending on your level of dedication to Noah and Olivia’s covers of ‘Stick Season’ and ‘lacy,’ you may be aware of Maisie Peters’ connection to it all. Basically, we wouldn’t have these covers without her. Olivia saw Maisie’s cover of ‘Stick Season’ and fell in love with it. The rest is history. And what do you know? Maisie’s music is great, too!
If you love Olivia, you might like Maisie’s ‘Holy Revival.’ It has the same “I’m over my ex, but I will still take any chance to get revenge” energy as ‘get him back!’ If you’re more interested in Noah, you should check out ‘The Last One.’ The best thing about Noah’s music is his storytelling. ‘Orange Juice’ for example, tells such a complex story in just under five minutes. ‘The Last One’ does the same and leaves us wanting to know more.
If past Record Store Days are anything to go off of, we’ll be ready to fight for ‘Stick Season’/’Lacy.’ And we figure if we have to prepare ourselves, we might as well get as many records as we can out of it. So do yourselves a favor and see if you like any of our picks!
