Taking on inspiration from sounds she loved and grew up with, AleXa delves into themes of self-love and respect with ‘Distraction,’ a song that serves as a wake-up call to those infatuated with toxic people and thinking it’s love.
“I wanted to create a song that speaks to anyone who has ever felt undervalued in a relationship,” she shares in a press release. “‘Distraction’ is about recognizing your worth and not allowing yourself to be anyone’s second choice. It’s a reminder to everyone that love is a two-way street, and you deserve someone who respects and cherishes you.” We are obsessed!
‘Distraction’ is a pop punk banger reminiscent of the iconic female-led bands we loved as teens. Full of electrifying vocals and high-energy, instrument-heavy melodies, this song was made to be sung into a hairbrush as you dance around your room. We are honestly so in love!
The accompanying music video gives a retro 2000s vibe with the effect of being shot on an old camcorder. We see AleXa go from licking her wounds as she deals with the constant dissatisfaction from being let down by a problematic partner before a therapy session, which sees her telling herself the hard truths of the relationship. As AleXa comes to the realization of her own self-worth, we see her living her best life with her friends and in a much better mindset. What a queen.
‘Distraction’ serves as the latest single in a series of English releases from AleXa as she caters to her international audience. Already having established a presence in the K-POP scene, the Oklahoma-born idol won the American Song Contest in 2022, opening her fanbase to a wider audience. This new sound is a total flip compared to her Korean music and showcases that AleXa is no one-trick pony. We are truly obsessed! We are loving what we are seeing from AleXa and cannot wait to see where her journey takes her next.
