EDM is making its way back around our playlists. For the first few months of this year, music has been overwhelmed by pop princesses like Sabrina Carpenter, Chapell Roan, and Charli XCX. Slowly, we are starting to see a change in the landscape as EDM artists are taking back the reins. One of the most popular? John Summit.
The 29-year-old DJ and music producer has always been popular and on DJ’s soundboards at clubs and parties. He’s created some of your favorite tracks like ‘Escape’ and ‘Go Back (featuring Julia Church)’ But the chaos that is inherent in electric dance music doesn’t stop there. Summit dropped his debut album Comfort In Chaos with twelve tracks that explore vulnerability and freedom.
How do people find comfort in chaotic music? The answers are hidden within the musical threads of Comfort In Chaos. When listening to the album for the first time, there were a handful of standout tracks that left us yearning for more.
‘Tears (with Paige Cavell)’
If you thought dance music couldn’t be personal, try again. When Summit announced that he was making a new album, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. When we heard this song we knew what the rest of the album would sound like. We’re not sure that we’ve ever heard Summit get this personal, but we love it.
“I don’t wanna fall in your love if you’re gonna take me away/I don’t wanna taste your kiss if you’re gonna fake it”
‘Where You Are’
The best music makes us feel lost within time and space. ‘Where You Are’ is one of those tracks that could go on for hours, and we wouldn’t notice (but in the best way possible). This song feels like old John Summit is back and gracing us with the tracks we grew up with.
“Do you dream alone under the moon?/Is it brighter, brighter when I’m with you?/Is the afterglow strong enough/To light this fire, fire back in us?”

Take a look at that cover art! Summit always has the best cover art that gives us a bit of insight into the sounds in the album. There is a lot of duality here – the devil and the angel, the moon and the sun, and water and fire. All these themes are as chaotic as they are comforting, as the title of the album implies.
‘palm of my hands’
Lately, Summit has been promoting this track in particular on his socials. It’s certainly a standout and the perfect way to close the album. After listening to the album in its entirety we feel like we could conquer the universe and hold it tight in the palm of our hands.
If you don’t feel inspired after listening to these songs, and the rest of the album, we can’t relate! If any artist can get us up off the couch and ready to run 10 miles without any energy drinks, it’s John Summit.
Did you think we really were not going to shoutout ‘Go Back?’ It’s been on a complete loop since it dropped! If you haven’t had a chance to listen to the complete Comfort In Chaos album, do yourself a service and stream it now!
