Nothing screams summer more than a great festival. For us over at The Honey POP, we love a good fest of music we’ve had on rotation and new tunes. We are heading back to Newport, Rhode Island to bring you coverage of a three-day festival that celebrates all walks of life. This year Newport Folk Festival (NFF) brings you a line up including big-ticket names like Hozier, Brittany Howard, and (just in time for prime Cowboy szn) Orville Peck. We are bringing you content only you can find here at The Honey POP throughout this upcoming weekend.
Before we get into the artists we are looking forward to seeing, we wish to highlight the waves of impact Newport Folk Festival is having, not only during this weekend but year-round. We are so in love with how they are community-based.

Newport Festival Foundations
Going hand-in-hand, Newport Folk Festival and Newport Festivals Foundations have made plenty of waves together. Each year they team up in a bunch of different ways giving back to organizations, internships, music programs, and more… and we are all here for it.
One way we see this play out is through their artists’ give program. Each year, Newport Festival Foundations gives grants to music education programs on behalf of every artist that performs at the fort. From music programs benefiting refugee and immigrant communities to prisons, they have given grants totaling over $400,000 since 2018. We love that this year some of the acts like Sierra Ferrell and Adrianne Lenker have asked Newport Festival Foundations to provide to some really cool and uplifting programs. This just shows how much of a W this community and the artists they bring are.

Newport Festival Foundations help build a sturdy foundation for music to thrive and grow. Their foundations include early jazz camps for youth, free music lessons, and relief funds for musicians, disabled musicians, BIPOC, LGBTQ, and content creators. Creating a safe space like this can have waves of impact as members can have space to feel supported in their pursuits of creativity. It goes a long way knowing the efforts every year go right back to doing good. Knowing this makes everything such a sweet sweet tune.
You can check out all Newport Festival Foundations and Newport Folk Festival does (because we KNOW there is so much more good news and updates) here. Feel free to interact, donate, and keep an eye out for just how they integrate each of these supports during this upcoming weekend.
Bikes Upon Bikes Upon Bikes!!

Not only is Newport Folk Festival all-encompassing with their foundation work, but they make it a point every year to support not only musicians but also all aspects of a festival. With tight restrictions that normal festivals go through to provide safe transportation to avoid long waits after each day (and let’s be real honest brutal traffic patterns), it can get overwhelming knowing when to leave and who to carpool with. Each year, NFF provides space to bike in, carpool, Uber (if you’re fancy), or even travel by boat.
Teaming up with Bike Newport, festival-goers have a choice to bike in and choose a greener way to arrive. We were high-key impressed just how much impact they made last year with rows and rows of bikes. According to Bike Newport, they had over 1800 people ride in each day. Not only is that a lot less tires on the road, it’s also many people making a collective decision to help aid in travel times. If you’re an avid bike user or wish to ride a bike to a festival, this space is for you.
Small Businesses For Days

One of our biggest takebacks from last year came from the small businesses. We got to try Fully Rooted Kombucha and shop around browsing books from Twenty Stories portable bookshop. We had a chance to meander our way over and chat with some really kind and talented folks. This year, they just released their food, market, and craft vendors. With over 60 different vendors, we already know that we will be chatting with like-minded folks around the beer gardens.
We’re Over The Moon Excited

Check out their recent post and tell us what food option we need to try, who we need to visit, or interview as we get closer to the fest! Overall, we are stoked at the opportunity to just be present in rooted history and great music. It is always a bright spotlight to review music and jam out – if you are headed to the fort, let’s ride in style together. Tag us or comment down below on what part of the festival are you looking forward to!
Check out our Day One, Day Two, or Day Three coverage from last year to get amped for this weekend. Also head on over or check our socials on what we will be doing on site starting tomorrow.
