What a wild weekend it was! We got to eat Del’s Lemonade while watching some of our favorite acts. We danced, we sang, we cried… a lot, but that didn’t stop us from basking in all the live music that will stay with us for a long time. Day three was filled with artists you have yet to hear and artists that remain impactful for generations to come. Here’s what went down on the last day of the Newport Folk Festival!
Grace Bowers

Grace Bowers had opened up day three on the Foundations tent, a stage that helps shine a light on growing artists. Turning 17 at the start of day three Grace absolutely owned her time on stage. Instantly everyone gravitated towards her playing but it was unique to hear an all-instrumental set. True to herself and true to her crew, they only communicated through hand nods and musical cues. Keep an eye out for her guys, she’s already making waves and has the talent of a lifetime.

Madison Cunningham

Surpassing every expectation, we got to hear Madison Cunningham live and we are still in awe. Only her and two others on stage, Madison had filled the tent with a sound that only a few artists can. During her set, she brought her good friend Remi Wolf (who would later take the same stage) and together they sang ‘Hospital’ and jammed out on stage as the crowd cheered. Playing all our favorites, we fangirled the whole time.

Bendigo Fletcher

Okay, we can talk for days about Bendigo Fletcher and their music. The kindest souls and great humans overall, we got the chance to catch their set first thing in the morning. After jamming with them on the bike stage, which is solely powered by festival-goers on bikes, they joined us for a few moments, and we are still processing how amazing these guys were as they were down to get creative for our little side stage photoshoot. A short and sweet time at the “fort,” they had gathered with some friends over the weekend. We are now long-term fans of these guys and suggest you put them on your playlist… like yesterday.

Remi Wolf

This bubble of light had started her set by surprising Newport Folk Festival’s MC while grinning from ear to ear. Remi Wolf‘s ability to hold a crowd’s attention is something uncommon. As ‘Liquor Store’ played, her entire crew had moments of acting each lyric out. There was no moment that we were not entertained. Waving to us as we left the photo pit, we were sad to say goodbye. When’s the next show, Remi?!

M. Ward

Now, if you were a fan of indie music, Doc Martens, the 2010 Twee Movement, you’ll know exactly who M. Ward is. Coming in last minute due to a festival schedule change, he has played Newport Folk Festival a handful of times. This entire set was an acoustic bliss and a moment of fresh air. Just him and his guitar, we were living in the moment. We were also captivated as we noticed just how much his fans never picked up a phone or said a word—they all completely focused on him.

Gregory Alan Isakov

Fulfilling our indie-folk dreams left and right, we were able to catch Gregory Alan Isakov’s set. Singing songs like ‘San Luis’ and ‘Amsterdam,’ Gregory catered to the crowd’s love for his music. Consistent and unwavering, he and his crew were heaven-sent. They filled the air with a sweet ambiance, bringing years of music to life. His set was a longer one so we got to linger in the moment before some of the last main acts set foot on stage.
