If you’re not a Billie Eilish fan by now, we “wish you the best for the rest of your life!” As of today, the highly decorated artist is number one in the world with over 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify. Her flowers are finally raining down, and we are one proud fandom!
Billie is known for always dropping incredible music videos, but the one for her hit song ‘LUNCH’ is an obvious standout. Recently she revealed a few secrets about the making of the fan-favorite music video and the inspiration for the unique visuals.
For “Lunch,” I really wanted it to feel nostalgic and like older 90’s videos I grew up watching and wanted it to feel almost like it was shot on an older camera.

Some artists that inspired the vibe of the video include Biggie, Tupac, Spice Girls, Green Day and My Chemical Romance.
Billie Eilish
Here are 5 music videos from the 90s and early 2000s that inspired Billie to make ‘LUNCH,’ but are also our fan favorites here in the hive!
Spice Girls
Who isn’t a Spice Girls fan?? Our favorite music video of theirs is ‘Say You’ll Be Mine’ and we can definitely see how this may have served as inspiration for ‘LUNCH.’ The camera angles and pops of color are so 90s and we love how Billie incorporated similar themes in her video too.
Green Day
Green Day is one of those bands that we are positive everyone reading this has listened to at least once. Their songs will live on forever and we love that Billie grew up listening to watching them perform! Our favorite Green Day music video is ‘Hitchin’ A Ride’ which was released in 1997 (no, we were not even born yet).
Tupac
The one and only Tupac Shakur lives on as inspiration for Billie Eilish. She has talked about him as a musical inspiration a few times and we can see how the ‘Hit ‘Em Up’ music video was 100% serving as ‘LUNCH’ inspiration. The white walls, up-close camera angles, striped shirts, having multiple versions of yourself dancing in one frame, and the list goes on and on!
Biggie
The Notorious B.I.G, aka Biggie, ruled the hip-hop world in the 90s and we wish we were around to see his greatness in real time! Our favorite Biggie music video is ‘Mo Money Mo Problems.’ Here, we see similar themes from the past videos such as up-close and wide camera angles and bright color outfits usually in red, yellow, and blue.
My Chemical Romance
Finally, we have to talk about My Chemical Romance. Their music still inspires so many people today, one of them being Billie Eilish. Billie is a child of the 2000’s after all, so we can definitely relate to her love for MCR! Here, the videos get a bit darker, but they still carry the same themes that we love to see in our favorite music videos. Our favorite MCR video has to be ‘I’m Not Okay (I Promise).’ We miss the MTV days!
