Stevie Nicks Spotlights Women’s Rights Conversation With ‘The Lighthouse’

Rock royalty has returned! Stevie Nicks is spotlighting an important conversation with her latest release, ‘The Lighthouse.’

Penned as a battle cry for reproductive rights, ‘The Lighthouse’ is as anthemic as you’d expect from an icon like Stevie. The track begins as a heartrending plea, with softer vocals and more electronic influence than you might have predicted. Suddenly it transforms and becomes a brazen rock anthem. The change in energy feels like a reclamation, and we couldn’t love it more if we tried.

The song has amazing movement and heart in its own right, but ‘The Lighthouse’ really comes alive with the music video…

‘The Lighthouse’ Music Video

The music video opens with a title card reading the dictionary entry for ‘The Lighthouse.’ The second definition reads, “a beacon of light providing a sense of direction, safety, and hope,” which is exactly what Stevie does with this song. It’s a powerful declaration to make at the top of the track, but Stevie, who has been making big statements for decades, carries it with grace.

Moreover, it actually isn’t only Stevie Nicks fighting this battle in ‘The Lighthouse’ music video. It features people protesting for women’s rights throughout history, from the suffragettes to the more recent overturning of Roe v Wade that sparked Stevie writing this song. These clips speak to the power of ‘The Lighthouse,’ and its intention of rallying people of every generation.

After the overturning, Stevie felt compelled to write a song about it, but the moment to write it didn’t come until September 6th, 2022, and she’s been working on it basically ever since. Stevie is an artist who has worn her heart on her sleeve (and in her pen!) throughout her career, and ‘The Lighthouse’ is no exception. We absolutely adore that she’s chosen to shine a light on an issue that means so much to her, especially knowing she’s spent two years making sure it was absolutely perfect.
