Tsunami Mob and Honeybees, as of March 17, 2026, Kehlani officially announced that her fifth album, Kehlani, will be coming out in April. We don’t know about you, but we’re excited about the news for several reasons. Since the announcement, Kehlani has been feeding us with what we should know. It hasn’t been a lot, but it’s more than enough to get us excited about their upcoming self-titled album.

They Brought Their Pixie Cut Back
If you’ve been following Kehlani’s career since their SweetSexySavage era, then you know about their iconic pixie cut. The album gave us R&B vibes and hit us in the feels. It was an era we knew to expect big things from Kehlani as an artist. Five albums in, Kehlani has brought the iconic pixie cut back for their self-titled album cover. It could mean a lot of things, but our best bet is that we’ll get a beautiful R&B album that will make us feel a mix of emotions.
Their Self-Titled Album
Some music artists release a self-titled album as their debut album. Others wait when they’re a few albums in. Regardless of when an artist or band/group releases a self-titled album, it tends to be among their best albums to date. Notable self-titled R&B albums include Aaliyah, Beyoncé, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Tamia, Mario, and Dru Hill. Releasing a self-titled album means different things to different artists; it might set the tone for an artist’s career, serve as a turning point, or signify artists returning to their roots.
Kehlani is choosing to name her fifth album Kehlani, which is a power move. They have several albums and mixtapes under their belt, and each project gives us different vibes.
We’re Not Just Getting One Feature, We’re Getting Features!
On the day of the album’s announcement on Kehlani’s Instagram broadcast channel, they told fans to guess who they think the features will be. Not feature, but features! Fans wasted no time going to the album announcement post to start guessing. A few guesses included Keri Hilson, Mariah Carey, Cardi B, Brandy, Mario, and Usher.
Very recently, Kehlani released a snippet in video form featuring the one and only Missy Elliott. Yes, THE Missy Misdemeanor Elliott! One thing about Missy Elliot is that any and everything she touches and produces is going to be a hit, and we know it’s going to be a hit because she does what she does best when hopping on a track, yelling “new Kehlani!”
We don’t know who else is featured on the album, but Missy Elliot being on it is enough to have us anticipating the album’s release.
We’re Getting Seventeen Tracks
From what we know so far, the album will feature 17 songs. Two of those tracks will include her songs ‘Folded’ and ‘Out The Window.’ And with the snippet Kehlani posted featuring Missy Elliot, we know another song will be titled ‘Back & Forth.’
We also know from past posts that Kehlani is in the studio working with Jermaine Dupri and Ryan Leslie. So far, it’s giving us 2000s R&B is back. We could even say that we might get some 90s R&B vibes on some tracks.
The Album Will Be Released On Her Birthday
Our last reason why we can’t wait for the self-titled album to be released is that it’ll be dropped on Kehlani’s birthday. It might not be a big deal to some, but for Kehlani fans, it’s a pretty big deal! Kehlani’s fans mean everything to them, and the fact that Kehlani wants us to celebrate their birthday with them by dropping a new album on their day means a lot to us. It’s a beautiful way to celebrate them and being a fan.
