If you’ve spent any amount of time on TikTok, have been following Sabrina Carpenter’s Short ‘n Sweet Tour, or are just a big Griff fan in general, you’re probably familiar with the hype surrounding ‘Last Night’s Mascara.’ What started as a demo track that didn’t make the Vertigo tracklist and sat on Griff’s computer for a year eventually became a major fan favorite after she performed it live during her run as an opener and on her own Vertigo headlining tour. Fans were begging for it to be released on streaming, and Griff granted our wish.
We love Griff in this household, and we have a feeling ‘Last Night’s Mascara’ is about to take her career to new heights.
The track is SO catchy. It’s the definition of an earworm. We will never get over this iconic pre-chorus:
“Oh, oh, and Sunday morning, got me looking crazy
I’m on my knees at the altar, baby
Asking God to wash you from my soul, oh, oh”
We’re not exaggerating; we’ve literally been walking around singing this all day since the song dropped. And are we trying to emulate the energy Griff brings when she performs ‘Last Night’s Mascara’ live? Yeah. Are we successful? We hope so, but it’s probably best we leave the performances to Griff.
‘Last Night’s Mascara’ is the anthem for everyone who desperately wishes they could forget a certain person or relationship. The imagery created by the lyrics of last night’s runny mascara after trying (and maybe failing) to make yourself feel better is a testament to Griff’s talent. “It’s dark as my heart, yet it’s sparkling” is one of our favorite lines. We love the lyrics and the production, and as always, Griff’s vocals have us absolutely blown away. It’s such an amazing track, and we hope that you all love it as much as we do.
