Grayscale’s ‘Don’t Leave Me In The Dark’ Lights The Way For Upcoming Album, The Hart

We interrupt your streaming of Grayscale’s ‘Kept Me Alive’ on repeat to bring you news that our favorite Philly band has released a new song. This is their sixth single release from their upcoming album, The Hart, and again, no. It is not ‘Through The Landslide.’ But Grayscale’s new song, ‘Don’t Leave Me In The Dark’ is just so good that we can let it (land)slide.

We’ve said it before but every single Grayscale releases solidifies it: The Hart is shaping up to be some of Grayscale’s best, most vulnerable work yet. The singles we’ve already gotten are laden with emotion and vulnerability, drawing from the band’s personal experiences. ‘Don’t Leave Me In The Dark’ is no exception on the vulnerability front.

This song reflects my experience watching my mom struggle with addiction … Leaving someone deep in addiction alone with themselves sometimes feels like leaving a scared child alone in the dark. I drew a comparison between how kids fear the dark and how adults face their own ‘dark places’ when battling something like addiction. There were moments when my mom would hold onto me and say, ‘Don’t leave me here,’ in her lowest points. I took that sentiment and my thoughts about ‘the dark’ to inspire the song’s title.

‘Don’t Leave Me In The Dark’ is shaping up to be one of our favorite Grayscale releases yet. Aside from the narrative that tugs at the heart the song just sounds beautiful. We love Collin Walsh’s vocals and the way the chorus sounds like someone is pleading “don’t leave me in the dark.” It drives the narrative of the track home in a full circle way.
