Yves had her re-debut earlier this year as a soloist, and so far, she has given us some of the most refreshing, brilliant mini-albums to establish her identity as a soloist and her genius artistry. Two mini-albums later, Yves is already going on her first solo tour for the Apple Cinnamon Crunch Tour, starting with Europe, with five dates in Berlin, Warsaw, London, Paris, and Rome. We had the honor to go to her concert in Paris on December 12th in the historic Bataclan venue, and here are our highlights of the night and why everyone should watch this show live!
‘VIOLA’
Yves has taken over our playlists with her latest mini-album, I DID, but more specifically, the title track ‘Viola.’ It is, by far, already her most iconic release, and that definitely could be felt as she performed it live. While the crowd was always loud, ‘VIOLA’ was probably the moment it got the loudest. ‘VIOLA’ also has an incredible performance, and something shifts in the air whenever Yves performs. The song also led to one of the best interactions between Yves and the crowd when she asked us to sing along even when the song had ended, and the crowd also did the fanchant.
The Covers
Yves didn’t only bring her entire discography on tour with her but also added fun elements to the show, including a Q&A to interact with fans, making the show new and exciting every time. More than that, Yves covered several incredible songs. These songs allowed her to showcase things different from her releases until now, experimenting with her vocals and the different genres that influence her music. Her covers of ‘Falling’ by Harry Styles and ‘Love’ by Keyshia Cole were jawdropping, as both of these songs are incredibly hard to sing—and yet, she did it with such ease and showed that she is a performer, yes, but she’s also an incredible vocalist.
Her cover of ‘Santa Tell Me’ by Ariana Grande, ahead of the holidays, created a sweet, fun moment, and this one has to be our favorite as it perfectly mixes her fun energy, her closeness with her fans, and her vocals. ‘Expresso’ by Sabrina Carpenter and ‘Die For You’ by the Weeknd were the cherry on top. Ranging from pop to R&B, Yves proved that her voice fits every genre with these covers and created fun moments for everyone.
‘DIORAMA’
‘DIORAMA’ is already one of Yves’ best B-sides, yet seeing it live makes it even better. The song was introduced by a dance break by Yves’ four incredible dancers, who are, with their chemistry with Yves and insane dancing skills, a highlight on their own. It led to ‘DIORAMA,’ which positioned itself as our favorite performance of the night within the first few seconds. Yves is an astonishing performer and dancer. Her choreographies are also always top-tier, but ‘DIORAMA’ is on another level. Seeing her perform with the dancers, proving their chemistry, connection, and incredible dancing skills, really elevated the show. Every move and moment felt mind-blowing and true to a real pop star.
‘Afterglow’
And talking about unforgettable b-sides, we must talk about ‘Afterglow.’ It is already enough that it stands out in Yves’ discography with its more pop-rock sound, but it’s also a song that showcases her vocals in the most powerful way. ‘Afterglow’ is a vulnerable song that shows Yves’ most raw emotions and vocals. And somehow, live, it hits even harder with her mind-blowing vocals and the atmosphere she creates by singing this song in front of her fans. While Yves showcased her vocals with the covers, ‘Afterglow’ was a special moment where she could belt out her own song and show her artistic versatility.
‘LOOP’
Opening and closing the show with ‘LOOP‘ is somewhat of a genius move; we’re not gonna lie. While other shows got ‘VIOLA’ as the encore song, Paris got Yves’ solo debut song, and it was perfect. As soon as Yves got on stage, she filled the room with every move and every note. She has such an aura that it is impossible not to be captivated. ‘LOOP,’ being performed twice, once with a performance and another time as an encore, proved that her presence alone and her music make the show fun and exciting.
Yves’ tour in Europe is now over, but the tour is far from over. Yves is heading to North America in January for the second leg of the Apple Cinnamon Crunch Tour, going to Canada and the US. We’re sure to see much more from her as her talent and artistry expand (maybe with a new cover too…) and we can’t wait for it.
