We didn’t realize two months have flown by since our last full audiobook review! But we’re back now, and that’s what matters. Today, we’re reviewing Sabrina Brier’s authorial debut with That Friend!
For those of us who found Sabrina Brier on TikTok first, we know her for her skits about privileged, egoistic characters. She brings that same wit and realness to That Friend, an audiobook about an aspiring NYC influencer who starts an advice podcast.
If you’re averse to audiobooks because they’re too long, then don’t worry. That Friend is a super quick audiobook that we finished in one night. Here are three of our favorite things about That Friend by Sabrina Brier!

Book Overview: That Friend
Summary: Sabrina, the self-proclaimed queen of the West Village, feels destined for greatness. While her three best friends have each settled into their careers, she’s still working odd jobs to stay afloat. She dreams of channeling her immense creative potential into…something. So she decides to do what no twenty-something has ever done before—start a podcast.
She has a knack for giving good advice (even if she can’t follow it herself), and as her show gains a following, she gets a taste of the internet stardom she’s always dreamed of. Meanwhile, her offline life is falling apart: her dad won’t help her pay rent for much longer; her elusive finance bro crush is always just out of reach; even her best friends can’t stand by her increasingly chaotic and narcissistic behavior, especially when she uses their real personal issues as juicy material for the show.
Will her newfound fans see the cracks in her Instagram-worthy facade? Or is she so delusional that this just might work?
The Cast
Ever since we discovered audiobooks could feel like a show, our lives changed for the better. We felt like we were sitting in Sabrina’s apartment, listening to her podcast live. Or whenever Sabrina and her friends go out on the town, we felt like we were sitting and walking alongside them. Sabrina Brier plays the main character so well, and we love the star-studded casting for That Friend. It was such a pleasant surprise seeing familiar names like Rachel Zegler, Rachel Dratch, Nicola Coughlan, and so many more in the credits.
Sabrina’s Friendships
Maintaining friendships in New York City can prove challenging, especially when you and your friends have such different careers and schedules. That Friend captures those complex, long-term friendships in such a short time. Sabrina’s up-and-coming podcast takes all her time, and it’s all she can talk about. Her friends want the best for her, but they can only talk with each other about how Sabrina’s been acting. The tension and pent-up frustrations within the friend group turn into a full-blown argument. (A canon event, for sure.)
The Happy Ending
More than anything, we love the happy ending in That Friend. We saw it coming, and we’re so proud of the way Sabrina’s character develops by the end. She learns to say “I’m sorry” and to put others before herself. But she also learns that her friends mean the world to her, and she wouldn’t trade their love for a check. No matter how much the money would’ve helped her situation, Sabrina trusts that she can make things work. It also helps to have her old friend-slash-producer Jack with her (*wink wink*).
An ode to female friendships, a star-studded cast, and a happily ever after. Sabrina Brier channels her witty and relatable personality into her debut audiobook, That Friend!
