If our dedicated readers have been following our articles this year, you know Koyal’s breathe in. breathe out. is an album we’ve been anxiously awaiting. Now that the indie-pop rock trio’s album is finally out, we had to go over it with you. The whole nine song run is the perfect mix of light indie and an edgier rock. Having perfectly such a delicate balance, it’s a wonder that we were able to narrow our favorites down to three. But even in an incredible album like this, there are some standouts. Let’s go over them!

‘we’re alright’
An opening track may be the most important on any album. They have to set the tone for the album perfectly to let listeners know that this is not an album they want to miss. And Koyal made a statement with breathe in. breathe out‘s opening track ‘we’re alright.’ They simply demanded we hold our breath as we kept listening, begging for more. ‘we’re alright’ shows off the mix of genres you’re about to encounter as you venture further into this album. The dramatic guitars and drums complement the striking vocals of lead singer Pooja Prabakaran. You can consider yourself hooked from the first minute.
‘gasoline’
We promised we wouldn’t do a track-by-track breakdown for this album. However, it looks to be going that way as we move from the opening track to the second. As it is, ‘gasoline’ is just as impressive as the song it follows. Once again, Koyal shows off their commanding vocals and, this time, a disco-inspired melody. Along with the flawless transition from song one to song two, they make it clear to us that they can make any style their own.
‘intoxicated’
Another powerhouse of a song. We’re sensing a theme here: each song by Koyal is as dominant as the last. Clicking play on ‘intoxicated’ leaves us no time to wonder if this song will be the same, as the opening hooks us right away. The same riff follows us through the song, and the accompanying melody is just as, dare we say, intoxicating.
We hope these three larger-than-life songs convince you to check out Koyal’s full, dynamic album. Once you’ve done so, come back and chat with us about it at @thehoneypop on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook!
