Taylor Swift Got Her Masters Back!

Last Friday, Taylor changed her history. Finally, she achieved justice when she announced that, after almost five years, she had regained the rights to her entire music catalog. Now, Taylor owns all of her masters! This is not only huge for Taylor but also for all the artists out there who are trying to be the owners of all their artistic work. Taylor is an example of resilience and creative freedom.

In a beautiful handwritten letter, she announced that she had the opportunity to buy the rights to everything she created. This includes her first six albums, videos, and films. If you’re new to the Swiftie world and don’t know why it’s a big deal, let us explain. What happened is that back in 2019, Scooter Braun bought Taylor’s masters without her knowledge. Thus, taking Taylor’s ownership of all of her masters that were under Big Machine Label Group. Swift made this public. To get back all her life’s work, she began to record all her albums, calling them the Taylor’s Version.

Okay, But How Did Taylor Get Her Masters Back?

So after Braun got the masters, he, later in 2020, sold them to Shamrock Capital. Keep that name in mind! They offered Taylor the opportunity to get all her life’s work back, and she accepted. Imagine working so hard all your life at something, and one day everything that you put blood, sweat, and tears into is taken away from you. Five years later, after thinking that you would never be the rightful owner, someone tells you that you can have your back!

The unreleased songs.

What About Reputation (Taylor’s Version)?

Let’s be honest, there wasn’t a day in which we didn’t think about Reputation (Taylor’s Version). Well, jokes on us, because Taylor announced that every time she tried to improve Reputation, she didn’t find the way to it, not only because of the backstory, but because she didn’t think it could be improved. We have to say that we 100% agree with her. It’s a fact that Reputation is a whole era that can’t be lived twice. Oh, and also, the album is pop perfection. However, she did say that maybe she will release the vault track, so fingers crossed!

She also wrote that her debut album is completely re-recorded and that she loves how it sounds. We hope to hear it one day. 

“Those 2 albums can still have their moments to re-emerge when the time is right, if that would be something you guys would be excited about. But if it happens, it won’t be from a place of sadness and longing for what I wish I could have. It will just be a celebration now.“

Taylor, throughout this journey, had given us magical, special moments, like hearing ‘All Too Well
(10 Minutes Version)’ for the first time or seeing Taylor Lautner in the ‘I Can See You’ music video. However, now that we listen to all Taylor’s versions, we will see them in a new light. In this light, we will celebrate all of Taylor’s masterpieces. Finally, after a long fight, we can say Taylor Swift owns her masters!
