Ice Queen incarnate (and unofficial mascot of fluffy white snow boots), Saweetie couldn’t have timed her Aussie arrival better—touching down smack in the middle of winter for four bone-chilling nights, including a sold-out Perth show that lit up Metro City on Wednesday, July 30. With fans wrapped around the block, she drew everyone from fur-clad die-hards flaunting VIP lanyards like trophies, to Married at First Sight’s Awhina Rutene, who, among other influencers, claimed an entire bar section to keep the drinks flowing like an IV drip—and the twerking steady. We’re running through the night’s biggest highlights—along with a few frostbite moments that had us pausing mid-shiver.
Openers
Of course, Saweetie had to roll in with an opening girl crew just as fierce—and judging by the dirty moves they were serving, she chose very right. From catching a little karma with Karma Jae, to Charity, to rising blinged-out star Amarni, they kept the crowd lit and the booties bouncing under green and purple lights—until the room’s energy took a bit of a dip. DJs D3llsy and TMG held the line, spinning crowd-pleasers with a twist: each needle drop paused just long enough for a lyrical fill-in-the-blank, tossing out early-2000s gems like Ciara’s ‘Goodies’ for the crowd to shout back in unison.
Standout Moments
After the umpteenth iPhone glow-check for the time, Saweetie finally strutted on around 10 p.m. to ‘My Type,’ dressed like the walking embodiment of her Hella Pressure era. Pink—sparkled into the EP’s calligraphy title—was everywhere: glittery, baggy cargo pants with tree-trunk appliqué, a triangle halter that looked like it borrowed half a bikini, and the pièce de résistance—a girly anime trucker cap. Her dancers followed suit, pink handkerchiefs fluttering from their denim like candy wrappers.
Sure, there were stretches where we found ourselves playing Where’s Saweetie?—she disappeared for multiple 10-minute breaks, which cooled the momentum and left things feeling a little… undercooked. But when she was on stage, it was a glitter bomb of fun. Two fans were pulled up for a twerk-off (and rewarded with goodie bags), plastic balls were tossed around the room like we were at Coachella instead of a club, and new tracks got slipped in between the hits. By the time she closed with crowd favorite ‘Tap In,’ complete with a magician-worthy white powder puff moment, it felt like the night had finally snapped into its high-shine groove.
Australia Tour Next Stops
We mentioned Saweetie’s sticking around in Australia—but now that we’ve got your full attention, here are the dates. Brisbane’s about to have the hottest T.G.I.F. ever with her hitting Eatons Hill Hotel this Friday, before she keeps the party rolling into Melbourne’s The Timber Yard on Saturday. And just when we don’t want the weekend to end—bam—Monday knocks, and she wraps it all up at Sydney’s Roundhouse.
Grab your tickets while you still can, and don’t forget to swing by our socials—Twitter, Instagram, Facebook—with your best bits from the night (bonus points if you’re serving snow princess realness, lethal and loyal in Saweetie’s army).
