What were you doing 10 years ago? Maybe scrolling through Tumblr, curating the perfect pastel aesthetic for your blog. Maybe you were arguing over the dress (blue and black, obviously), figuring out exactly what moment called for a dab, or realizing how a selfie stick totally changed the Instagram game. For us, we were discovering Halsey and escaping into the pastel-colored, neon-lit landscape that was their debut album, Badlands.
Released in 2015, Badlands was the pinnacle of sad girl pop music, holding a similar reign to albums like Blurryface by Lana Del Rey. It helped define an era with its mix of electro-pop, alt-pop, and synth-driven darkness. It provided a generation of alternative kids with the perfect soundtrack for our Tumblr feeds and those late-night moments when we pretended to be the main character in a John Green book. It was wigs dyed in impossible shades of pink and blue, neon lights, and lyrics full of self-reflection and self-discovery.
And now, a whole 10 years later, we get to go back (is this real … someone pinch us!)
Everything You Need To Know About The BACK TO BADLANDS TOUR
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of their triple-platinum debut, Halsey has announced the BACK TO BADLANDS TOUR. It’s a true full-circle moment that has fans everywhere, especially since, for many of us, the OG Badlands Tour was the first concert we ever experienced (comment down below if this was you).
Fresh off the finale of their For My Last Trick Tour, Halsey is heading back on the road, dusting off those neon lights and Doc boots, and inviting fans around the world to relive the magic of this album all over again. Tickets will first be available during the artist presale on Tuesday, September 2nd, where fans had to WhatsApp Halsey with a secret emoji for exclusive access. This will be followed by a variety of additional presales throughout the week, leading up to the general sale, which begins on Friday, September 5th, at 10:00 a.m. local time. BADLANDS As An Era To Forever Be Remembered
The Badlands era gave us an entire cultural shift. At that time, Halsey was building a world we became so immersed in that if you asked fans to close their eyes and picture it, they’d instantly visualize the colors, the setting, and the characters. As the album that started it all, we must acknowledge some key moments that shaped their artistry and the albums to come. For one, Badlands debuted at spot number two on the Billboard 200 and went triple platinum. For a debut album, it doesn’t get much more impressive than that.
This era also cemented Halsey as the poster child for alt internet kids. From bold hairstyles to fishnet tights, they embodied the aesthetic we were all chasing at the time. Take the ‘New Americana’ moment, the song was everywhere! And, it cemented Halsey in pop culture conversations as a new voice for a new generation.
The Badlands era also saw Halsey go from playing small clubs to owning festival stages with some of the steadiest live vocals of their generation. Including a breakout set at Lollapalooza in 2015. Around that time, Halsey also launched collaborations like ‘Closer’ with The Chainsmokers, which catapulted them from the internet’s favorite alt-pop artist to mainstream stardom.
We’ve seen Halsey’s artistry grow, we’ve seen a feature film, and we’ve been immersed in their worlds and alter-egos. But it was the Badlands era that started it all, and it has proved to be timeless. The fact that they can bring this tour back 10 years later and have the internet go crazy for songs that shaped our adolescence, but now give us the chance to hear them as adults? It doesn’t get better than this.
