In Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar, the fig tree became an unforgettable symbol of choice, growth, and possibility. Each fig represented a different path in life, and the book follows the main character’s inability to choose them all, watching them wither as time passed. It’s a metaphor that still resonates deeply with our generation … the idea that we can’t nurture every branch at once. And it’s this push and pull between choosing a fig and tending to its growth, while watching the other possibilities fall.
ROZZI’s Own Fig Tree
This September, soul singer Rozzi is tending her own fig tree by nurturing not just her music but a bold new artistic venture. As Rozzi builds her own world with a unique collaboration with New York’s Ki Smith Gallery, bringing together 26 visual artists from across the globe to create original works inspired by her upcoming album, Fig Tree. Selected from over 500 submissions and paired with one of the record’s 13 tracks, each artist had the chance to speak with Rozzi directly before creating their own response to her music. And as fans and appreciators of all forms of artistry, we get to experience a multi-sensory dialogue between sound and light.

Everything you need to know about the exhibition
The exhibition opens Saturday, September 6th, and will run for six weeks. Every week, Rozzi herself will return to the gallery, performing new material from Fig Tree alongside favorites from her catalog with a rotating band lineup. Literally soundtracking the space she helped inspire.
Celebrity judges, including Gia Coppola, Simon Le Bon, Julian Lennon, Kiersey Clemons, and Simon Shaw, helped narrow down the artist lineup, and Rozzi has described the project as one of the greatest honors of her career:
“To experience these talented artists make something directly in response to my songs, in a way I could never dream of expressing myself, is really one of the honors of my career… it feels like a massive statement of unity and connection at a time when the world feels so divisive.” – Rozzi

The Leading Single: ‘Fig Tree’
The single ‘Fig Tree’ perfectly captures those tangled feelings of possibility, mistrust, and uncertainty. It explores the aftermath of being deeply loved while simultaneously losing touch with the person you once were, your truest self. At its core, it circles around that “I want to be” yearning, but filtered through the lens of love. The steady pace pulls you in, while Rozzi’s rich, velvety vocals carry shades of Alex Turner’s Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino era. Her storytelling is so vivid you can almost see the longing unfold. Partly for a lover, and partly for the version of yourself that feels just out of reach.
Anticipating the album: Fig Tree
Rozzi’s upcoming album, Fig Tree, marks a daring step deeper into her inner life, blending her vocals with pure vulnerability. Luckily for us, we’ve got the first single from the album.
So while we wait in anticipation and check our calendars for when we can visit the Ki Smith Gallery, we will be tending to our own tree and wondering about the possibilities and routes in our own lives that we forget to nurture. At THP!, we love that Rozzi is rooting her artistry in both sound and sight. How excited are you for Rozzi’s new album?
