Quarters, Edgehill, and Krooked Kings have all made our week with new releases. Although each of these bands is unique in its own way, alternative/indie/rock bands all fill us with the same joy. With so much incredible new music coming out this year, it’s understandable if you feel a little overwhelmed. But don’t fret! The last thing we want is for our dear readers to miss any of our favorite releases. So allow us to introduce you to these three bands. You’ll be begging for new content from them. And lucky for you, they won’t leave you hanging!
Quarters
You may have seen these rockstars on tour with Bad Suns, The Band Camino, or Two Door Cinema Club. If you didn’t, but you like any of those bands, look no further for your next favorite! Currently, they are gearing up for their third album release and a headline tour. So if you like the nostalgic rock sound paired with vibrant energy, and like being spoiled with content, look no further.
Teasing their third album, Quarters (fka Quarters of Change) has released two pairs of singles. Most recently: ‘HEADLIGHT’/’PERFECT WORLD.’ At the end of last year: ‘STAR’/’PLUMMET.’ Each song has a different vibe, but each maintains the lively spirit that Quarters exudes. Of the two most recent singles, ‘HEADLIGHT’ is definitely the most edgy, pure rock. Listening to it, we can’t help but feel like we’re seeing them perform at a DIY rock show in a basement somewhere. And now’s your chance to get some semblance of that experience. It may not be a basement show. As it happens, Quarters is more popular than that (and as they should be). However, with Quarters heading out on tour in March, now is your chance to say you knew them before they got big.

Krooked Kings
For more of a softer indie-rock sound, check out Krooked Kings. Like Quarters, any potential fans of Krooked Kings are sure to have plenty of content headed their way. Along with their album release on March 27, they are taking off on a headline tour in April. This week’s release, ‘My Friend Max,’ follows two other singles off of In Another Life: ‘Parking Lot’ and ‘Rancher’s Daughter.’
With these three songs together, we imagine we’ve only seen the beginning of the range this album is about to show off. While ‘Parking Lot’ is more thrilling, detailing the thrill of new love, ‘My Friend Max’ is quieter. More emotional. We’ve grown obsessed with this style from them, as it’s reminiscent of some of our old favorites from them. Previously, songs like ‘Wish We Could Be Friends’ and ‘Coming of Age’ have mastered the art of making a song sound both melancholy and optimistic. ‘My Friend Max’ feels the same way. If it and the other two releases are any indication of what we’ll hear on March 27, we couldn’t get there fast enough. In fact, we’d love it if you joined us in staring at our phones and pressing play at exactly midnight.

Edgehill
Edgehill’s is another upcoming alternative album you don’t want to miss. Set to release February 13, we can’t think of a better Valentine’s Day present. While we wait for Ode to the Greyhouse to release, we already have five tracks from the album to enjoy. This week, they put out ‘Love To Go.’ If you want something like Midwest alternative rock, this is the song for you. Honestly, this kind of feels like we’re at a basement show, too. Maybe that’s just the peak experience for listening to rock music.
Moving on from basement shows, the five songs that are currently out prove that gritty rock is going nowhere. ‘I Can Be Your Dog’ in particular is incredibly catchy. It sounds like the band is just having fun with their instruments, and yet it’s masterfully put together. We can hear the fun they have playing music through our speakers, and we love sharing the joy with them.
