Opening up our Release Radar this week was truly a gift. After eagerly listening to this week’s new releases, we’ll tell you that these artists are at the top their game right now. Between Noah Kahan, Holly Humberstone, and more, we could go on and on. And we will! If you’re looking for the next song to put on repeat for the next few weeks, read on. Whether you’re looking for indie, pop, or rock, we’ve got you covered!
‘Porch Light’ – Noah Kahan
Following up Noah Kahan’s showstopping Stick Season is a tall order. But he seems to be doing just fine with it. As we look forward to his fourth album The Great Divide, out April 24, we now have two songs to play on repeat. We’d say we’ll be listening to nothing else until the album comes out, but looking at the rest of this list, that’s not a promise we think we can keep. (We hope he understands.)
That being said, we can promise to listen to Noah’s new single ‘Porch Light’ a concerning amount. Typical of his music, it is emotional and makes us question everything about our lives. With ‘Porch Light,’ he adopts his mother’s perspective as he sings about the safety of quitting and returning home. Between this and the first track, ‘The Great Divide,’ we’ll be setting aside the whole release day to curl in a ball and cry.

‘Do You Really Love Her’ – Spacey Jane
After soundtracking our summer with last year’s album, If That Makes Sense, Spacey Jane is back to take over. ‘Do You Really Love Her’ fits neatly into the world they’ve built. The bright, bouncy guitar riffs and dreamy vocals blend their typical “surf rock” vibe with an ’80s influence. And the music video brings it all together. It’s part fiction, part dream, and part reality. We’re not sure if any of you have been stood up by a date just to see them on the big screen. However, we’re pretty confident that the theme of connection and loss is relatable to most of you. After If That Makes Sense showed off both their fun and vulnerable sides, ‘Do You Really Love Her’ is the natural next step. And we can’t wait for what they come up with next.

‘Shame’ – Sunday (1994)
Indie/dream-pop band Sunday (1994) is wrapping up their most recent project, Devotion. And they’re doing it with neat wrapping and a bow on top. After standing out last year with their whimsical artistry, the three new songs defiantly state that they are far from finished. They’re closing out this EP era with a bang, but the best is still yet to come as they begin teasing a debut album. And if their impressive 18 pre-album tracks are an advertisement, then we are in for a treat.
The standout song on Devotion (Deluxe) is the first track, ‘Shame,’ which shows you everything Sunday (1994) is capable of. Not only does it show off their distinct sound, but it features some of our favorite punchy lyrics. In the past, they’ve been known for witty lyrics that just make us smile, and “All we need to be free and in love is blunt force trauma” is no exception. Beyond the music itself, it proves that they know how to perfect an image. They are easily recognizable with their pink, white, and black color scheme, classy outfits, and consistently grainy, vintage music video quality. Sunday (1994) knows exactly who they are. And you should know them too.

‘Cruel World’ – Holly Humberstone
Two things we love here at The Honey Pop: album title tracks and Holly Humberstone. So naturally, we love ‘Cruel World.’ As we get closer to the release of Holly’s second album, out April 10, we can hardly contain our excitement. And we can imagine, as the title track, this song gives us a good idea of what to expect. Already, the released songs from Cruel World have captured a dichotomy between love and pain. The title track tells the story of a long-distance love, addressing both the joyous and melancholic side of it. We love that she’s not afraid to shy away from anything, and we can’t wait to hear even more of it in just under a month.

‘Damage Control’ – Krooked Kings
If you’ve noticed, a lot of these releases are coming before a new album. That means we have a lot to keep up with. And honestly, what an amazing problem to have. On the schedule for March 27 is Krooked Kings’ In Another Life. Their most recent single, ‘Damage Control,’ reflects on regret and self-destructive tendencies. It’s just the latest of their releases that shine because of their ability to be honest. So if you’re an indie-rock fan and you haven’t checked out Krooked Kings yet, now is the time to do so.
