First of all, no one should apologize for not biting their tongue. Especially instant crush, who has so much to say on their debut album I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE, that they are releasing a deluxe on March 13. And with the electricity in each of their songs, we are ready to listen. To make sure you’re as ready as we are, allow us to tell you everything we know about this alternative gem.
‘GRUDGE’
If you haven’t heard instant crush before, let us introduce you. Pop-punk mixed with indie rock, instant crush is a fresh take on the nostalgic, early-2000s sound that we all love. With their mix of captivating instrumentals, dashes of synth-pop, and fearless attitude, instant crush could take over the alternative scene. To prove it, we’ll point you to their deluxe’s lead single, ‘GRUDGE.’
Leaning more to the rock side of their pop-rock pendulum, ‘GRUDGE’ proves that instant crush has no filler songs. Each song has something to say. And each one is as attention-grabbing as singer Megan Cannon’s bright pink hair. This one comes at us like a punch and leaves a clear message: we should all be listening to instant crush.
‘Grudge’ is a song I wrote about my frustration in the music industry. I feel like throughout my life I’ve done a lot of things out of spite (for better or for worse), and there is nothing I enjoy more than proving people wrong. At the very start of this band, it seemed like people thought I was only capable of doing one thing or sounding one way, and those words really stuck with me for a long time, and I felt a bitterness in my soul that would eat away at me. I thought I was genuinely an awful person for never letting anything go and holding resentment in my heart, but it was that trait that I think made me work harder. I wanted to make something gritty, different, and unlike something that would be expected from instant crush.

‘CALL ME CRAZY’
A highlight from the new songs, ‘CALL ME CRAZY’ teeters on the edge of insanity with a beat to dance to. If you’re sick of being told to calm down, or if you just want to let go, then this is your song. ‘CALL ME CRAZY’ ties I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE together perfectly. Why be silent when we can get loud? That’s the theme of the album, after all. Call us crazy, but we’re happy to lose our minds to this song with them.
‘LONER’
Now that we’ve introduced you to the two show-stopping new tracks, we have to highlight one of our favorites from the standard edition of the album. With ‘LONER,’ instant crush masters modern alt-pop. If we’re honest, the art of making fun of someone you like is one that’s not addressed enough in music. Not only do we like the idea of telling someone they should come over because they are a loner and a loser, we like the fact that this song sonically matches that experience even more. Somehow, this song sounds just like dancing around your room in pajamas thinking about your crush and wishing they would come over. It’s like Audrey Hobert but edgier.
What Else?
Along with the two new tracks, and the ten standard edition songs, I’M SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE (DELUXE) will unveil one more brand new original song, ‘RIGHT WHERE YOU LEFT ME,’ and three demos. Already, instant crush has more than proven themselves. Anyone looking for the next big thing in the indie-rock sphere should look no further. So, mark your calendars for March 13, and check out the rest!
