BTS are back with a total masterpiece, ARIRANG. Since the first time we heard the album, it’s been basically impossible for us to have any non-ARIRANG-related thoughts. With so much flying around in our minds, we reached the point where we’ve started associating colors with each song. This started a bit of a debate between THP’s ARMY, so now we wanna hear from you! What do you make of our choices?
‘Body to Body’
We lowkey had to start with purple simply because BTS is back. The album opens with what might be our (and Jimin’s) favorite song, and ‘Body to Body’ perfectly sets the tone for exactly who this iteration of BTS is.
‘Hooligan’
Everything about ‘Hooligan’ is in your face, and that’s why we love it. From the swords clashing to the maniacal laughter, this song demands your attention, just like this potent shade of orange.
‘Aliens’
‘Aliens,’ like many of the songs on ARIRANG, is like three songs in one. The production on this track is filthy, rich, and murky, all at once. What colour could demonstrate that better than this?
‘FYA’
We’d say that the clue is in the name for this track, but considering we didn’t realise ‘FYA’ meant, well, “fire,” until we heard it, we probably can’t claim that.
‘2.0’
‘2.0’ is a transitional moment for both sonically in ARIRANG, and lyrically, as it describes this time in BTS’ journey. In our opinion, blue is the color with the most diverse connotations, so it was perfect for this song!
‘No. 29’ (Interlude)
‘No. 29’ is the reset button on ARIRANG. For that reason, we considered choosing white, but the meaning and context of this interlude is too rich, so we went for this warm cream instead.
‘SWIM’
There was some debate in the THP hive as to whether or not ‘SWIM’ should be blue, for obvious reasons. In the end, though, it had to be red given that ‘SWIM’ has the responsibility of representing ARIRANG.
‘Merry Go Round’
As we fully get into the second half of the album, things get psychedelic. This trippy green is the perfect match for ‘Merry Go Round!’
‘NORMAL’
There was no choice but to make sure ‘NORMAL’ was assigned a rich jewel tone like this one. In the song, BTS gives voice to the complications that come with their status, and this deep, complex shade of their quintessential color, purple, exemplifies that! According to us at least…
‘Like Animals’
The only word to describe the guitar in ‘Like Animals’ is delicious. Pair that with the distorted vocals and gorgeous harmonies, and we’re totally bloodthirsty for ‘Like Animals.’
‘they don’t know ’bout us’
‘they don’t know ‘bout us’ is such a statement that we reckon there isn’t a single color that could do it justice. As a result, we went for the closest we could get to chrome or silver, this icy gray.
‘One More Night’
Oh, this one is gonna hit on tour, isn’t it?! The acid house track is a total banger and deserves this psychedelic pink-purple.
‘Please’
We’ve reached the penultimate track! ‘Please’ is already a fan favorite, at times overtaking ‘Body to Body’ and ‘SWIM’ in the charts. It’s where BTS’ R&B sensibilities shine the most on ARIRANG, which is why we gave it this rich tone.
‘Into the Sun’
Last but not least, we have ‘Into The Sun.’ And this time, the clue actually was in the name. This one had to be yellow, but we switched it up to this gentle, pastel shade to match the peace and clarity that the song imbues.
