PLLI, it’s time! PLAVE returns with their second mini album in the Caligo series, stepping once again into a universe where light and shadow are in constant collision. Following on from Caligo Pt. 1, this new chapter pushes the narrative further as the confrontation with darkness moves closer to its breaking point, escalating the story toward its looming climax.
Within PLAVE’s universe, Caligo is a shadow-bound force that emerges from the wider world of Caelum, taking shape as an army designed to retrieve those deemed forgotten or defiant and pull them toward the void at the edge of existence.
Opposing them are the members of PLAVE, who exist within Asterum, a fragile sanctuary now under constant threat. In contrast, Caligo becomes the embodiment of despair made manifest; a relentless presence hunting them as fugitives fighting to preserve their identity, freedom, and connection to one another.
Caligo Pt. 2 doesn’t simply continue the story; it amplifies it. Despite its five-track length, the project boldly expands PLAVE’s sonic landscape, showcasing both their musical growth and a more defined artistic identity. Even in its brevity, it delivers an impressively genre-diverse journey that effortlessly transitions between vulnerability, experimentation, and intensity.
With the stage set, we take a deeper dive into Caligo Pt. 2 track by track, uncovering how each song continues to build on PLAVE’s evolving storyline while revealing new shades of their sound and identity.
PLAVE is a virtual idol group that exists within its own established universe, where storytelling and music are deeply intertwined — a concept that continues to shape the experience of each release.
‘Blossom Parade’
WOW. An entirely a cappella opening track where even the “instrumentation” is built from PLAVE’s own vocals. The texture of each member’s voice intertwines beautifully, layering harmonies, rhythms, and percussive elements to create something genuinely striking and ethereal. There’s a sense of precision in how it’s arranged, but it never feels clinical. Instead, it flows naturally, almost weightlessly. It’s a bold, confident opener that immediately sets the tone for just how experimental and vocally driven this project is, pulling the listener straight into PLAVE’s world without relying on anything but their voice.
’HMPH’ ft SOLE
Previously released as the pre-release single, this track marks PLAVE’s first official collaboration, featuring R&B artist SOLE. It leans into a soft, cinematic R&B sound that feels almost like it belongs on a film soundtrack, with smooth melodies and a warm, understated groove. The addition of SOLE brings a new texture to the mix, complementing PLAVE’s tones rather than overpowering them and adding subtle emotional depth. There’s a gentle charm to it, but also a quiet confidence; reinforcing something PLAVE consistently proves: their ability to step into any genre and make it feel completely their own, while still sounding cohesive as a group.
’Born Savage’
The centerpiece of the album’s narrative. Where the opening tracks feel light and melodic, ‘Born Savage’ pivots into something raw, conflicted, and emotionally heavier. There’s a darker edge here, driven by industrial textures, gritty guitar lines, and a deep, pulsing bass that adds intensity throughout. The track thrives on contrast—both sonically and vocally—as softer moments collide with harsher, more aggressive deliveries. It captures a sense of inner conflict and duality, as if grappling with identity and instinct, and marks a turning point in the album where everything becomes more urgent, more fractured, and more emotionally exposed.
‘Lunar Hearts’
The penultimate song on Caligo Pt. 2 is a deeply emotional, atmospheric ballad that feels almost suspended in space. Built around themes of longing and connection, it unfolds slowly, allowing each moment to breathe and resonate. The orchestral layering adds a cinematic scale, swelling and receding in a way that mirrors the emotional push and pull within the track. There’s a dreamlike quality to it, but also a quiet ache running underneath, like reaching for something that always feels just out of grasp. It’s one of the album’s most immersive moments, drawing the listener into its weightless yet deeply emotional world.
‘Think I Am’
Retro done right. ‘Think I Am’ leans into 90s-inspired hip-hop with a retro bounce, reminiscent of early boom bap and new jack swing influences, with a playful, nostalgic energy. There’s a playful confidence woven throughout, echoing the influence of 1st gen K-POP while still feeling fresh and modern in its execution. The rhythm carries the track forward effortlessly, giving it a vibrant, almost carefree energy that contrasts nicely with the heavier moments earlier in the album. It’s full of personality and self-assurance, closing Caligo Pt. 2 on a stylish note that feels both reflective and quietly triumphant.
Ultimately, Caligo Pt. 2 feels like both a continuation and a transformation of PLAVE’s evolving narrative. While it remains deeply rooted in the lore of Asterum, Caelum, and the ever-encroaching force of Caligo, it also stands firmly on its own as a showcase of artistic range and confidence. Across just five tracks, PLAVE move through silence, softness, intensity, and nostalgia with a sense of control that highlights how much they’ve grown—not only in their storyline but as musicians in their own right. If Caligo Pt. 1 established the existence of the shadow, then this chapter feels like stepping directly into it, unsure, exposed, but still reaching forward. And in doing so, Caligo Pt. 2 doesn’t simply close a chapter; it lingers in that uncertainty, leaving you waiting for whatever comes next.
To further highlight the group’s growing global impact, Caligo Pt. 1 also achieved significant milestones following its release in February 2025. Within just 24 hours, the project surpassed 11 million cumulative streams on South Korea’s streaming platform Melon, alongside securing two major platform achievements, including entry into the Billions Club, awarded to artists who surpass one billion cumulative streams since debut, as well as recognition for the highest million-level streaming performance within a 24-hour period. The project’s critical acclaim also extended beyond commercial success, with Caligo Pt. 1 being named one of THP’s Top 50 Albums of 2025.
Just six days after release, PLAVE’s total cumulative streams exceeded two billion and have continued to climb since. The title track ‘Dash’ also marked a major milestone for the group, earning their first entry onto Billboard’s Global 200 chart, while four additional tracks from the project appeared on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart.
These achievements not only underscore the momentum built through Caligo Pt. 1, but also further solidify PLAVE’s expanding global reach and rising presence within the international music landscape. With this level of momentum setting the backdrop, Caligo Pt. 2 arrives not just as a continuation of PLAVE’s narrative, but as another step in a rapidly expanding global trajectory.
