We fell down the rabbit hole and landed in the dreamlike world of Madison Beer’s the locket tour. Picture scratchy 50s music from an old record player, a blue and white babydoll house, and stepping through a love tunnel straight into a carnival setting. That’s the locket tour. Although Madison is playing 8,500-10,000 capacity venues during this tour, one thing was clear by the end of this show – she should be performing in arenas. From her stage presence to the choreography, this was a show built for an arena. Being able to witness it in a smaller venue was such a privilege and the locket era is only the beginning of Madison’s success as a pop star. Here’s how our night went as fans attending Madison Beer’s the locket tour.
Lulu Simon And Thủy Got Us Ready For The Night
What’s a good concert without an amazing pair of openers! The locket tour features more than one opening act (which we always love). In San Francisco, fans got to sing along with Lulu Simon and Thủy prior to Madison’s set. When she walked onstage, we knew Lulu took a page out of Madison’s book (in the best way possible). She sported tall white go-go boots and a bow in her hair – so cute! We adored Lulu’s set and are definitely walking away from this tour as a new fan of hers. Thủy was up next! As a Bay Area native, Thủy gave it her all for this crowd in particular. With two backup dancers by her side, she absolutely crushed this set and showed us why she’s the next mega pop star. A highlight was hearing her sing her viral song ‘girls like me don’t cry,’ which got the audience singing along right away. A year from now, we could totally see Thủy headlining by herself in a venue like Bill Graham.
Madison Opened With Her Hits
Now that fans were buzzing from Lulu and Thủy’s sets, it was time for Madison to own the stage. With a strong start that set the energy for the rest of the night, Madison opened with ‘YES BABY,’ and fans were screaming so loud that we could barely hear Madison hit those high notes (but best believe, she did hit them). Instantly, we were transported into the dreamy world of the locket album.
A Dollhouse Come Alive
One of the most impressive parts about this show was the set itself. It became clear that the set was mimicking the layout of a dollhouse, with Madison and her dancers being the dolls. Once we saw it, we couldn’t unsee it. This idea was so clever, and we loved all the moments that incorporated the turning set pieces and the staircases. Considering Madison looks like a Barbie doll herself, this creative idea was only fitting. In addition to the set, we got three different costume changes throughout the show. In San Francisco, Madison started with a hot black corset and heels for songs like ‘BOYSH*T,’ then moved onto a flowy butter yellow dress and ballet flats for the more melodic songs like ‘somehow i got lucky’ and ‘Envy The Leaves,’ then finally closed the show with another black corset for her hit songs like ‘make you mine.’ Each outfit was uniquely Madison’s style and helped tell the story of the show, linking one act to the next.
The Setlist (We Got ‘Tyler Durdan!’)
The setlist for this show was absolutely perfect. Madison evenly sprinkled the new songs from locket in between her hits and fan favorites from the Silence Between Songs era. Here is every song Madison sang in San Francisco, plus our surprise song!
- ‘YES BABY’
- ’15 MINUTES’
- ‘BOYSH*T’
- ‘Home To Another One’
- ‘bad enough’
- ‘Reckless’
- ‘locket theme – extended’
- ‘somehow i got lucky’ x ‘healthy habit’
- ‘Envy The Leaves’
- ‘nothing at all’ x ‘everything happens for a reason’
- ‘Dear Society’
- ‘Tyler Durdan’ (Surprise song)
- ‘Spinnin’
- ‘Selfish’
- ‘you’re still everything’
- ‘angel wings’
- ‘Baby’
- ‘for the night’
- ‘free’
- ‘complexity’
- ‘lovergirl’
- ‘make you mine’
- ‘bittersweet’
On behalf of everyone in the crowd that night, we say thank you to the fan who got picked to choose the surprise song. It was between ‘Sweet Relief’ and ‘Tyler Durdan’ – they chose right! To hear ‘Tyler Durdan’ live was not what we were expecting going into the show, but wow, how nostalgic that was! If you plan on attending this tour, don’t worry, each night is different, and a surprise song is coming your way too! If you could pick any surprise song from Madison’s discography, which would you choose?
Fan Interactions + Special Moments
If you haven’t caught on already, the barricade is the place to be for this tour. Towards the end of the show, during ‘lovergirl,’ Madison steps down onto the floor to be closer to fans. If you’re standing on the barricade, you’ll get to touch her hand, get a smile, and have a special moment with her face-to-face. We have to give Madison the credit – she really took her time with each fan during this song! Some gave her gifts like bracelets, while others got to give her a hug. If you’re looking to have a moment like this with Madison too, we recommend securing that barricade spot and/or getting a VIP package. Not all artists are willing to be that close to their fans, and we applaud Madison for making the show so special for each person in attendance. Her loving energy even radiated to the farthest corners of the venue (a telltale sign of an amazing performer). Her love for her fans is clear as day!
