When people bring up idol songwriting credits, it usually gets treated as a fun trivia fact tacked onto an artist’s bio. For Yuqi, it stopped being a footnote a while ago. Her name has been showing up in liner notes since 2020, and what started as one song for her fans has turned into full writing and composing credits on her own releases, plus an award that puts her name next to some of the biggest voices in the industry this year!
It Started With A Song For The Fans
Back in 2020, Yuqi’s first official writing credit came on ‘I’m the Trend,’ a song she made with Minnie specifically for Neverland. It read like a thank-you note set to music, and it also happened to be the moment we got proof she could hold her own behind the boards, not just in front of the mic.
Then The Credits Kept Coming
From there, the pace picked up. She co-wrote and co-composed ‘Lost’ for I Burn, picked up a writing credit on the Chinese version of ‘Hwaa,’ and by the time her solo debut single A Page dropped in 2021, ‘Giant’ was written and composed entirely by her. That last one is worth sitting with. Her first solo single wasn’t just a vocal showcase; it was proof she could carry a song from the ground up on her own!
Her Group Era Got More Ambitious
I Never Die, and I Love gave her even more room to stretch. ‘Polaroid’ and ‘Liar’ both carry her writing, composing, and arranging credits, and ‘Reset’ and ‘Dark (X-file)’ followed that same pattern. By I Feel, she had writing and composing credits on both ‘All Night’ and ‘Peter Pan,’ and album 2 kept that streak going with ‘Doll’ and ‘Rollie.’
YUQ1 Basically Became Her Solo Notebook
Her 2024 EP YUQ1 is where all of this stopped feeling like occasional side credits and started looking like a body of work. She wrote or co-wrote most of the tracklist, including ‘FREAK,’ ‘My Way,’ and ‘Everytime’ with Minnie, plus writing credits on her features with pH-1 and Lexie Liu.
Motivation Is Where It All Clicked
Then came Motivation in September 2025, and this is the release that changed the conversation entirely. Yuqi wrote and composed every song on the single herself, including the lead track ‘M.O.,’ which hit number one in Korea. This wasn’t a co-write buried in a tracklist. It was a full, self-written project with her name on every credit line.
The Industry Noticed Too
Tencent Music named her Woman of the Year in Music for 2026, crediting her writing and composing work on Motivation directly. She also swept the platform’s year-end honors, taking Singer of the Year, Solo Singer of the Year, Song of the Year for ‘FREAK,’ and EP/Single of the Year for Motivation, while both ‘Radio (Dum-Dum)’ and ‘FREAK’ earned Gold certifications along the way.
What makes this worth paying attention to isn’t just the number of credits piling up. It’s the direction they’re moving in.
