Mark Tuan has done it again! Following the release of his first single in this new era, ‘Alone,’ our favorite LA boy is back with ‘NIGHTLIGHT,’ featuring the wonderful Thai singer and rapper MILLI, who just makes the song that much better.
In this new track, we get a bit of everything that makes us love Mark‘s music so much. It has the alt pop vibes we’ve come to associate with his style blended with a bit of hip-hop that brings a different flavor to it. We also see the return of rapper Mark, which is always a positive thing. And by the way, saying “well I can rap, sh*t” like it’s no big deal is the understatement of the year, bro!
“I’d been seeing fans ask for more rap, so when I went into the session in Nashville, I really wanted to play around with that side of myself. After ‘Alone,’ which was more introspective and focused on feeling closed off, I wanted ‘NIGHTLIGHT’ to feel like a shift: more open, playful and in motion.”
Mark Tuan on the creation of ‘NIGHTLIGHT’
Now can we please talk about the visuals for this MV? We are completely obsessed! The luxurious vibes alone are already so Mark Tuan-coded, and playing with the idea of light and dark by having two sides of Mark appearing throughout the MV makes it so that we can’t tear our eyes away from either of them.
If ‘NIGHTLIGHT’ and ‘Alone’ are any indication of what this new era will be like and what we can expect from Mark’s next album, we couldn’t be more excited to learn what comes next. Since GOT7‘s debut in 2014, Mark has grown immensely as an artist, and seeing that evolution throughout both the group’s music as well as his solo releases is such a joy for us as fans.
Finally, what are these lyrics, man? Mark Tuan singing about somebody looking so good you can’t even entertain the idea of turning the lights off was not something we knew we needed, but now we don’t think we can live without it. ‘NIGHTLIGHT’ is 100% going to be on repeat in this hive for the foreseeable future.
