You know how some songs just feel like a warm hug exactly when we need it. In our humble opinion, Mark Tuan’s discography is definitely part of that list. Known for his soft vocals and melodies that make us swoon, Mark’s music is the perfect soundtrack for when you’re needing some comforting words from one of our favorite singers.
‘Alone’
We could only ever start this off with ‘Alone’ if we’re being honest. And it may or may not have something to do with the song’s MV. It’s the type of song that makes you want to sing along and dance in your seat as you’re driving. The soft R&B vibes and the deeply personal lyrics are a perfect addition to the soundtrack of our lives. ‘Alone’ symbolizes a new era of Mark’s music, and playing this song at full volume can be your way of stepping into your own new beginnings.
‘my life’
“I woke up and realized that this is my life” is such a powerful line to end the chorus on that there was no way we’d leave it out of this list. We all have days that are harder than others, and we always go back to ‘my life’ on those days. It’s nice to know we aren’t the only ones who have difficult feelings to deal with and moments when we feel lonely and just need a hug. That’s what this song feels like, a hug for when we need it most.
‘my name’
If you ever need to feel like you’re at the top of the world and no one can stop you, ‘my name’ is the first song we’d recommend you add to your playlist. The hip-hop inspired track is 100% Mark celebrating his life and career, singing about how much he loves what he does for a living and the joy from the song really is contagious in the best way. The crowds are screaming Mark’s name and we’re screaming the lyrics to this song.
‘Sunsets & Cigarettes’
Yes, this is a break up song. Yes, we’re including it anyway. Walk with us here: first of all, this is the title track of Silhouette, there’s no way we’d pass up the chance to mention it. Second of all, have you heard this song? Have you heard how Mark’s vocals sound? And the way he mixes the emotional lyrics with a melody that makes you want to get off your seat and dance? Truly something only Mark Tuan could achieve and we’re obsessed with it.
‘Pretty Little Picture’
Also off of Silhouette, the next song on our list is ‘Pretty Little Picture.’ We’ve played this song on the road with the windows down. 10/10 experience, we’d definitely recommend it. The description of a soft, playful relationship like the one in this song will put a smile on anyone’s face, that’s just a scientific fact (trust us, we know what we’re saying.)
‘Last Breath’
Sometimes all we need in order to escape an umpleasant situation is the right song to inspire us, and ‘Last Breath’ definitely fits that description. The song’s description of being unable to breathe when another person is around resonates deeply with many, and sometimes all we need is a little push to get out and finally breathe when we’re alone.
‘hold still’
Choosing to pair an upbeat melody with emotional lyrics was one of the best things that could’ve happened to ‘hold still.’ It evokes the confusing feeling of knowing it was for the best while also dealing with the pain that remains. Truly expert work from Mark on this one.
‘High As You’
As we’ve said before, nothing gets us high as Mark’s music, especially if the song is ‘High As You.’ The feeling of being high on the emotions someone causes you is perfectly translated into song form, and we get a pretty similar feeling every time we listen to this song. And while we’re on the subject, we’re still not over how pretty the MV for ‘High As You’ is.
‘lonely’
If we’re not including a super emotional song that brings tears to our eyes at the same time it gives us comfort in knowing we’re not the only ones who feel this way on this list, what are we even doing? One of the most honest songs from the other side, ‘lonely’ is for those who often choose to isolate themselves as a coping mechanism, but it also reminds us that’s not the only option. Even when our lives are a mess, we know we can still run to Mark’s music.
‘change up’
Sometimes all we need is a reminder that it’s possible to change and also stay true to who we are. And that’s exactly the vibes of ‘Change Up.’ Change is a natural part of growing up, but never losing the essence of who we are, which is exactly what this song talks about, and with an awesome beat to match as well!
Bonus: ‘Out The Door’
Did you think we wouldn’t include a GOT7 song written by Mark on this list? Wrong! There was no way we’d pass up the chance to talk about ‘Out The Door’ on this list. Not only is the song itself iconic and perfect for when we need some comfort, we also love the fact that it was originally supposed to be a Mark solo song but he decided to record it with the group for Winter Heptagon instead. We’d be gushing over the beautiful lyrics and singing them at the top of our lungs either way, but having all seven singing it together just adds a special flavor to it.
